ALAN PARDEW has confirmed that Sylvain Marveaux and Demba Ba are "fit and ready" to kick-off their Newcastle careers during the club’s pre- season schedule.

Marveaux has not played competitive football since November after suffering groin and knee problems with Rennes, when an abductor muscle problem curtailed his career with the French club.

Ba’s fitness came under scrutiny when Stoke boss Tony Pulis pulled out of a £7.1m move after the ex- Hoffenheim star failed a medical due to a knee problem – and described his transfer to West Ham as "a massive risk".

However, Pardew was quick to assure United fans today, and told the Chronicle: "They will be fit. Apart from James Perch, who has a slight problem, we have a clean bill of health going into the new season.

    "And long may that continue."

United’s friendly games kick-off with a trip to the Darlington Arena two weeks tonight to face the FA Trophy-winning Quak- ers, before the Magpies embark on their pre- season tour to the United States with games against Sporting Kansas City, Orlando City and Columbus Crew. Whether Pardew will field a full-strength side against Darlington remains to be seen, with a high-profile tour of the States designed to generate interest in North America.

I read this in the the chronicle and I thought when it says "And long may that continue." <party>they were on about James Perch and his injury.<party>

Just hoping all the new boys can get through pre-season unscathed, you know for a fact if one of them picks up a knock the media will jump on it like there's no tomorrow.

LOL at that Perch bit, imagine if that's what he actually meant <laugh> no wonder he wants to be off!

Also hope we can get some new boys in before pre-season officially kicks off.

Perch is still injured? At least he's been good at that recently...

Wonder if Perch's 'slight problem' is more an attitude rather than physical one?
