Newcastle lining up a deal for QPR’s star midfielder

By Josh Dixon on Jul 17, 2015 Championship, Featured, News, Queens Park Rangers, Transfers
According to reports today, Premier League outfit Newcastle United are keen on a move for QPR’s Dutch midfielder Leroy Fer with numerous clubs willing to offer the 25 year-old another shot at top flight football.
The dominating central midfielder played 29 league games last season in a campaign which saw Rangers relegated to the Championship with Fer contributing six goals and two assists.
A versatile player who can be played either wide left, in an attacking midfielder role or in the middle of the park, Fer is a current Dutch international having made 11 appearances so far for Oranje since rising through the youth levels.

Starting his career with Eredivisie giants Feyenoord, Fer made over 100 appearances during his four year stint with the Dutch outfit winning the KNVB Cup in the 2007-08 season and being awarded Rotterdam’s Talent of the Year for 2008.
After two seasons with fellow Dutch top flight club FC Twente, where he worked with current Newcastle boss Steve McClaren, Fer joined Norwich City in a deal worth around £4.5 million.
His first season with the Canaries saw them relegated to the Championship and QPR paid out £8 million to give the midfielder another season in the Premier League – but despite his efforts the Hoops suffered relegation.

Another one we shouldn't let go on the cheap so minimum look to recoup our £8m. Looks like we may have a ready made replacement lined up which is a positive.

The guy is quality if used properly. I would be very surprised if we don't recoup most or all of what we paid for him.

Fer is not the most energetic of players but he looked good when played in his correct position of central midfield. He would undoubtedly be a major asset for us next season but I'd be tempted by an offer which gave us our money back, especially as we appear to have Chery lined up as a direct replacement (for £2.25m).

Looking at Chery's video, posted here on Not606, he looks a skilful player who is also prepared to run about, make tackles and score goals, a stark contrast with some of our so-called star players of recent seasons.

Unlike Arry, Chris is planing ahead....we obviously have too many attacking midfielders..... some will go...
Phillips and Fer and possibly Junior......I just hope we get the money and that our replacement s are up to the job in hand..which is not premiership level but good enough to get us to the top of the championship.

Now if only he could get us some defenders
