Austin completed a £4m move from Burnley yesterday and was immediately handed QPRâs number nine shirt and charged with the task of firing the London club back into the Premier League at the first time of asking. His arrival makes it even more likely that Remy will be leaving his current employers before the end of the transfer window, despite only joining QPR in an £8m move from Marseille in January. Newcastleâs interest in Remy has intensified in the last 24 hours after their hopes of signing Darren Bent receded significantly. Bentâs representatives met Magpies director of football Joe Kinnear on Thursday, but were unimpressed by the deal that was placed on the table. It is understood that Kinnear was not prepared to match Fulhamâs anticipated contract offer to Bent, and was only prepared to make an initial offer of around £2m to Aston Villa, a bid that would have been rejected and left the England international in limbo until the closing stages of the transfer window. . . Fulham are now firmly in pole position and hope to complete Bentâs capture before the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign. Newcastle will focus their attention on Bafetimbi Gomis, who remains an option despite the collapse of negotiations with Lyon, and Remy, who they hope to sign on a season-long loan, with a view to a permanent transfer next summer. They would prefer a temporary arrangement initially as that would enable them to wash their hands of the 26-year-old if he is convicted of rape during his loan deal. Remy was bailed following his arrest on suspicion of rape in May and is expected to learn whether he will face any charges next month. Aside from any ethical issues, signing Remy on a permanent basis would be a risk given the lack of attacking options within the current Newcastle squad, but Redknapp is adamant the Frenchman will not be leaving on loan. Remy has an £8m buy-out clause in his contract, and Redknapp claims Newcastle will have to offer that sum if they want to sign a player who spurned them in January in order to join QPR. âI donât think he will go on loan,â said Redknapp. âI canât see any sense in it. I donât know why weâd pay £8m and then loan him out. If he was to go, someone will have to pay for him. He has a buy-out clause and we want our money back.â A move for Gomis looks equally fraught, with Lyon having rejected Newcastleâs most recent offer of around £6.8m at the start of the week. Moussa Sissoko tweeted Gomis a message last night in which he claimed the France international would be âwelcome at Newcastleâ, but sources in France claim Marseille officials have told the strikerâs representatives they will make a move of their own towards the end of the transfer window. That would potentially be more appealing than a transfer to Tyneside. Newcastle completed one piece of transfer business yesterday with 21-year-old midfielder Michael Richardson joining League Two Accrington Stanley on a one-month loan. Adam Campbell could also be leaving St Jamesâ Park on a temporary basis as St Mirren boss Danny Lennon has confirmed his interest in the young striker after having both Paul Dummett and Conor Newton on loan last season.
If we loan Remy out then we are in the same situation as we were this time yesterday. We need four strikers minimum. Really hope we keep him.
