My step daughter married a plastic mag and we went on holiday with them last year. I was joking with the grandson about bringing a mag top on holiday although he didn't wear it and the pet lip came out (well he was 7 years old at the time). The son in law didn't like this so he declared that "no son of mine will be a staunch Sunderland fan!) My back got up a bit but the wife jumped in first with "then why don't you take him to Newcastle games then" to which he replied with the normal "can't get a ticket" which SERIOUSLY got my back up since I've heard it since Keegan took over in 92! Without going into details and cutting a long story short - things went downhill after that and they went out in their own that night!
He’s a party guest like all the others. If you don’t want to interact with him just ignore him. If he decides he wants to talk to you just be pleasant. If he wants to talk about football you can always try and steer him away from it. Alternatively just be non committal.
Funny story about this.. well funny now wasn’t at the time. Went out into Newcastle for NYE must’ve been 5 years ago when my daughter was only 4/5 months old. Was with my missus, best mate and his missus. Me and mine had a bit of a Barney she ended up jumping in a taxi and I got into some bother with about 20 students. One of them went for me so I dropped him and his mate, then a girl who also punched me as it was going on. Obviously didn’t realise it was a girl just happened in the moment I was surrounded by so many people I wasnt really thinking. Got lifted outside monument anyway and spent the night in forth banks. The worst night of my life. All I could think about was if I get locked up when am I going to see my daughter. Real wake up call to grow the f*ck up. Luckily the students I was scrapping with had all scarpered when they heard the police vans because half of Northumbria police ended up turning up. Nothing on camera to identify anyone and I was let go with a slap on the wrist. One of the lads I’d punched could’ve easily cracked a head on those tiles outside what was Gino or Jamie Oliver’s? Can’t remember now but could’ve been much worse for me.

Yeah agree with this! All of the ones on my street are “that”. Half of them (despite being similar age to me) have never been to SJP. When you ask them it’s because of the demand for tickets. Point out that they used to average 10-15k in my lifetime, they don’t believe you!!
Ah, but you see when they were getting 10-15k it was a "buoycott" not that they were fickle . I am old enough to remember 7k at Sid James late 70's.
They had 35k there in the championship in 2009 lol, they all forget about that when they brag about getting 52k there 10 years later.
