Now the dust has settled on the opening weeks of the season, lots of fans are wondering where the 5,000 odd fans are that make up the shortfall on capacity.

Well, look at the facts. We're playing out of our skins, we're unbeaten, we've signed good flair players and still the attendances are stubbornly hovering around 46,000+

My view is fans who aren't going aren't going because of funds and for that chief reason attendances may not rise above the present. Ok, for say ManU or Unwashed, the ground might sell out, for 90% of the foreseeable future we may get this steady attendance figure cropping up.

    Things could be worse:

Villarrael took NO tickets for the CL game against Man City as they couldn't commit to selling them. Only away tickets were for ex-pat walk ups.
Unwashed struggling to sell more than 34,000

I haven't been this season, but do hope to go at some stage! Fecking work!

  4. We always start low and steadily build our attendances.

We were getting an average of like 42k at the start of last season and finished with a 47.5k average last season.

We're already getting 46-47k averages, so it's a good sign that the crowds will boost to around 50k towards the middle of the season.

People seem to forget that most people are struggling to heat their homes and put food on the tables. Plus with Christmas coming up, people are tightening their belts further. Like Tash said, things usually don't peak till mid season.

I also haven't been down this season either, mainly down to decent trains that allow you to make the game and get home after are shockingly expensive compared to past seasons. Hope to get to 1 game around xmas time though and the mackem game is definately on the cards.

I find that the travel costs aren't too bad - there's usually a cheap way to get there, even if it's by megabus, it's the match ticket costs. My dad took me, my brother and my grandad to Villa last season and it ended up costing around 130 quid, even with child and OAP concessions.

It's money for most, I can't afford to go often, between petrol up there then 2 tickets for me and husband, we just can't justify it right now. I'll probably only make 2 home and 2 away games this season.

I'm fortunate that both my husband and myself have full time jobs, but when the kids were smaller if money was tight, the kids came first.

I'm not convinced you know what averages are, but I do agree. No way will we peak at 47 when the mackems will be a near sellout.

  17. Well our overall average is just under 46k, because the Fulham attendance was ****.

But The Arse, Blackburn and Spurs homes games were all around 46-47k <ok>

Love the song AB, no Lionel Richie this time. Maybe he will have us dancing on the ceiling on Saturday when we beat Wigan and stay fourth.

We beat Wigan 5-0, Chelsea lose to QPR 2-0 and we're 3rd <whistle>

Been dancing on the ceiling since the start of the season. Great things happening and it's looking really good.

Unfortunately Lionel didn't do Lady Eleanor, but I have just been putting a CD together with some of his numbers on.
