Newcastle and PSV opened negotiations on Erik Pieters today

    A link to the article: its on www.vi.nl This is a Dutch website that is in general giving correct info.

    The article states: Newcastle and PSV have opened negotiations this saturday. Newcastle want to sign Erik Pieters and give him a 4 year contract.
    PSV's pricetag is 7 to 8 million. The deal is expected to be completed this weekend.

    Some additional info on Pieters that is not in the article:
    Born 7 august 1988. Pieters played the last 3 seasons at PSV Eindhoven, first choice for the left back position (76 matches in the eredivisie for PSV). Before that he played 2 seasons for Fc Utrecht (51 eredivisie matches) Currently first choice in Hollands national team (10 caps) he took over Giovanni van Bronckhorst position in the squad (left back position).
    Pieters was part of the Dutch U-21 team that won the European title.

    Despite these promising looking stats there are still some doubts about Pieters. Some say he plays in the national team because there simply is no decent alternative.
    At Psv it was not 100% sure that he would keep his place in the squad. There was an alternative in 19 year old Tamata who started the first match with Pieters on the bench. However, Tamata performed badly and Pieters played the second half. Still looks like PSV is not all that happy with Pieters.

    I'll be happy if we sign him, that Sissokho talk is about as likely as us signing Mario Gomez.

    He's a zillion times better than our current LB who is errmmmm, oh yeah we haven't got one.

    Not sure how accurate they are with the info. If we were to sign him I would give him a chance to see if he can prove the naysayers wrong.
