george boyd has refused a new contract at posh, he has played 260 games for them scoring 68 goals- not too shabby for a winger. could he be the solution to our right hand problem? or any other suggestions?
Erm, no, he isn't good enough for the PL. And plus, we have Lallana on the left, which is where Boyd plays.
It would depend on what division we are in. Who is on a free, what the contact situation of targets were, who was potentially transfer listed etc. Lots to consider, not really easy to just pluck a name out of the air. I like the look of McCleary and M.Phillips though, if I had to suggest 2 names of players in our division.
I don't think he's better than what we've got - I'm not as anti as other people in this thread, and if we stay down I'll be happy to see us sign him, but I don't think he's a PL player and we need wingers with pace, for example Matt Phillips.
Yeah i can see george boyd being an ok player. He is not just a left mid field player he can play in the number 10 role. I would not be disappointed but i think we can do better.
Boyd is basically a poor man's Lallana. Decent enough player, but he wouldn't be the direct and explosive winger that we need.
I think Jarvis is just the type of player we should be looking at. We need a left footied option in our side. Would love a right winger with the ability to beat people (i.e with pace as well as skill which De Ridder seems to lack) and Phillips would fit that category. Continuing on the 'if we go up & they go down' idea...Stephen Hunt at Wolves is a good player too. Doyle/Fletecher from Wolves would also be significantly better than what we have (except Rickie of course) Not too many from Bolton/WIgan that I'd fancy although Moses has some flair and pace. If QPR go down I wouldn't fancy any of theirs tbh and they'd be financially able to keep hold of who they want. Would love us to go for somebody like Hoilett but I think we'd struggle to get a player of that ability whilst we're an unknown quantity. Bit like how Sharp said he didn't want to join us in the SUmmer because he wasn't sure if we'd drop like a stone... With regards to your suggestion of Boyd, not sure why you've been put down so much. He's not really a winger although he has played his last few on the left. He cuts in, gets involved, scores goals and unlocks defence. He's 26 so should be mature enough to do what he's told. Could be a great back-up to Lallana. Quick brain, quick feet and good vision. We're not just looking for first teamers you know, it's about improving the squad...
