http://www.footballfancast.com/2012/06/football-blogs/why-footballs-financial-pyramid-is-all-wrong All I can see is the gap continuing to widen with more clubs folding.
Same here Billy the rich clubs will get richer and the rest will get less and less. Got to think that the also rans from about 6/7th place down will need to up their ticket prices etc. to try and make up the gap and, that won't go down well with the fans considering that players could be on about 350k a week.
Why is it wrong? as long as each of the 20 clubs get the same cash (£40mill each last year) then I really cant see the problem with the deal itself, and the cash involved, for PL Clubs anyway, Lower League clubs, then thats a different argument all together. What is wrong but not sure what we can do about it is this, numbers I am just making up but its close if not spot on. Sky are allowed to show 130 live games a season. Each club has to be shown 5 times minimum, 26 times maximum Big clubs, Man U etc get shown the most 24-26 times a season, usually when they play each other. Smaller clubs get on once in a blue moon, min 5 times a season, but they usually get on with other smaller clubs Wigan Vs Reading as an example. This means that Man U etc etc, are shown against other top teams for the most part, which get shown abroad, Smaller teams get shown against other smaller teams which do get shown abroad but who is going to watch them (for the most part unless its a criticle end of season game for the Man United`s of this world) so Man U gets more air time abroad than Wigan say which = more exposure = more money in the long run from the foreign markets. What I am trying to say is TV time isnt equal, yes you get the TV but usually not against a top team, unless you are a top team yourself. Mind you the audience isnt there for a Wigan Vs Reading, but a Wigan Vs Man United game there would be, and if Wigan pull off a shock, then they may gain some fans/Sponsors abroad. As for the cah in the deal though, meh, its fine for me, its everything else that goes with football these days, that makes it hard to catch up.
It's going to make the Championship play-off final even more valuable than it is now. I would hope they review their ticket prices with all this extra cash coming in instead of milking fans as usual. Not holding my breath...
Another inevitable step down the path of feeding the bigger clubs. Hopefully the EPL will make their choice of what to show before the season starts and Sky will not be allowed to cherry pick games as the season goes on.
