Arsenal and Sunderland are both in the hunt for Hannover 96 striker Mohammed Abdellaoue.

Abdellaoue, 25, has been outstanding for the German side following his move back in August 2010 and has been attracting interest from a number of European clubs.

The Norwegian striker is keen to show he can compete at the highest level and could get a big-money move when the transfer window reopens in January.

Reports in Norway suggest that Arsenal and Sunderland are the strong favourites to clinch his signature.

Arsene Wenger signed Gervinho and Park Chu-Young during the summer but he is still looking to bolster his forward line.

With uncertainty surrounding the long-term future of Asamoah Gyan, Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is also hoping to sign another striker.

Abdellaoue's agent Stig Lillejord admits there is interest in the star forward and they will wait until January before they make a decision over his long-term future.

Lillejord said: "For the time being we do not have an offer on the table but there are several European clubs that are showing an interest. We will wait until January and see what happens."

January is a whole world away mate, im rather happy the window is closed and we can concentrate on the football, who knows how our new strikers will develop. Wickham looks very raw, maybe loaning him to Ipswich for the year for some of the fee back which we payed may have been a great thing to do so he played more games, gained more experience and came back more ready. The Korean lad for me could be promising but i havent seen enough although the Brighton team scared the **** out of me and worries me still very much. Bendtner could be a master stroke, i know Arsenal fans didnt think much of him but ive watched him a lot and he is a great player, maybe not top 4 but certainly top half premiership striker and makes us a lot stronger.
