Because Cody has gone we need someone asap. We got Cody because we needed a goal scorer because obviously the manager couldn't trust the strikers we have to provide goals. You can't rely on mid field to score consistantly and what I saw of German he's not the answer and smacks of a panic signing. I don't know who is available but hopefully the management have got some irons in the fire. '
Weston possibly out aswell , Birchall hasn't scored a league goal yet and kedwell and burton who between them have scored 2 goals in open play in 2013 .We Need A Goal scorer
Yeap I'm afraid Hessy left his 'non league' legacy upfront with two of the most ineffective signings ever in Birchall and Kedwell. Its going to take a year or so before MA can get us some proper strikers.
Better than this today then Lenny... please log in to view this image What sort of striker you looking for to do better than that and what ratio would your % expectation be of them?
This is not quite up to date but I wouldn't mind any of those above "penalty king " Kedwell and no goals Birchall http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/league-two/top-goalscorers.html And Danny Hylton of Aldershot is not too shabby with 12 goals
vinney - I am just probing on my original question - that is just a list of top goal scorers. So which of those players are available to the Gills within our market price (whatever that might be). Also referring back to my original question what strike % would you expect from them at the Gills ie not as a comparison to what they are currently achieving, as our set up may not suit what they have at their current club.
Its obviously impossible to say what percentage of goals another striker would bring to the club, although Cody was pretty impressive. We do however, have a history of playing to a strikers strengths i.e with Bob Taylor we had Hodge, Asaba etc to provide for him, and Pulis just let him stay in the middle and do what he was best at. Cody, first time had Bayo and Marlon had Paul Shaw. Much as I and probably most other Gills fans would love to see Kedwell and Birchall turn into goal machines, but I just don't see it. Keds, for me,is only in the box for long throws and corners, which is where he's got his non-penalties from. The rest of the time he stays away from the danger area where he's got too much to do to score,so has to pass it to Burton,or a mid fielder who is in the position he should be. Poor old Birchall has had his injury, but watching him in his sub appearances and starting on Tuesday, I'm afraid he is just too light weight for this division. It's strange really, because the other players praise him for how he is in training, but at the moment he can't seem to replicate it on the pitch. I really don't think either of those two will be here next season, so we've got to get at least two more strikers in. Mainly we're toothless up front. Weston like most wingers is up and down, Burton shows his class but age is against him, but hopefully we can stumble across the line by winning by one goal and not conceding, but you can't do that every week, and sooner or later you will get caught by a sucker punch as we did against Oxford. We've just got to hope we win more than we lose from now on in, unless we can get a loan striker in,who can scare defences like Cody did.
Just probing on that original question of mine again. Regardless of how Keds gets his goal he still has that ratio (in early pic) of 1.58 So what would be the expectation of someone if 1.58 is not good enough? Players play the role they are placed by their manager's set up. So it was clear for all to see what Cody's role was say in comparison to Keds or Weston (can't be sure with Birchall). So who is to blame for that, the player of the manager, if you deem it not good enough. You can see it week in week out MA directing players exactly where they need to be. Does his instructions fit their mould or the fans expectations.
Well I must have missed something. Apart fromm a great double save from Kedwell ( when it might have been easier to score ) I don't think their keeper was overly troubled. We were so deep for most of the game and their keeper had the 'control' of mostly anything in their last third of the pitch. We started off with a good tempo - but after 5 or so minutes tailed off.
Your joking right? Apart from the Keds save, I must have missed the other 89 minutes if that was the case. I spoke at the game that a majority of the time the keeper particularly in the first half was standing well outside his penalty area. Does not bode of a keeper under any sort of pressure or in need of brilliant form to me. If Cody had still been with us, there is absolutely no way that keeper would have been situated where he was during much of the game.
I think Kedwell was unlucky with the first one but when it come back to him he should have reacted quicker than he did and I think he will know that inside because he had a second chance there.
