City have completed the loan signing of Huddersfield Town striker Martin Paterson for the remainder of the 2013/14 campaign. The 26-year-old Northern Ireland international striker bolsters Cityâs goalscoring options for the final ten games of the season. City boss Steve Cotterill told bcfc.co.uk: âWeâve got three strikers and weâve wanted to get to four for some time. âWeâve had to wait a bit for Martin to see what his situation is for him. Theyâve signed Nahki Wells and James Vaughan is coming back to full fitness, so this opportunity has arisen and weâre very grateful to Huddersfield. âMartinâs a very hard-working striker who will offer us another option in attack and weâre delighted to have him.â A livewire forward who began his career with Stoke City after graduating from their Academy setup, Paterson made his name at Scunthorpe United. Replacing 2006/07 promotion hero Billy Sharp, Paterson took to life in the Championship with Scunthorpe well and even attracted interest from top flight clubs. After a 13-goal season with Scunthorpe, Burnley secured his services for a total fee of £1.3m, a club record at the time. He immediately top scored for the Clarets, helping them reach a League Cup semi-final and promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs. Injury hit Patersonâs chances of regular top flight action and by June 2013 â after netting 37 times in 151 appearances â he moved on a free transfer to Huddersfield Town. This season heâs scored eight times in 33 games, including five goals in four games over the Christmas and New Year period. Paterson has been handed squad number 24 and is available to face Swindon Town at Ashton Gate today (3pm). Be interesting to see how he does, came on under tough circumstances today, but bottled a header to win the game.
And actually passed the ball to team mates rather than trying to walk it through the whole Swindon defense.
Hit the post & one cleared off the line...JET was not all that bad Saturday, could still be our saviour this season....he do irritate at times though, has undoubted ability.
Spot on Big John. His assist and goal record speaks for itself. The number of clean sheets we've had show where the real problems have been.
I assume you mean our woeful defence and non-existent leadership on the pitch RP? For the first time in a long time I am beginning to feel the beginnings of an ok team taking shape. I still don't like strikers being captain - most of the at is behind them, but in the absence of a leader at the back Baldock will have to do for now. We are now an average L1 team. Last season I would have been disappointed with that but now I'm relieved. We are taking some slow but welcome steps in the right direction.
Sorry - went off thread with my comment... I still think that although improved, our defence is still our Achilles heel - we concede to too many set pieces, so a new striker would not be high on my shopping list - especially as we have the top scorer in the div here at AG. Having said that I like what I am reading about him and he is an ideal age - as long as he stays injury-free so I welcome him and wish him well.
'For the first time in a long time I am beginning to feel the beginnings of an ok team taking shape' Our results have improved but I can't see a decent set up yet. And I don't think I'll ever rate Cotterill. His post match comments are those from a simpleton. Tinker, tinker every game and his choice of player eg ElAbd,Barnett and Wagstaff does my head in. If we do well next season I'll be surprised, especially as I can't see us keeping Baldock. Dread to think where we'd be without his goals this season. And yet a squad that includes : Baldock(hopefully),Jet, Kelly,Pearson,2 Elliots,Pack,Williams,Reid,Burns,Bryan,Cunningham,Moloney and Osbourne should p*ss L1. I just think Cotterill is/will be the problem.
well if you think cotterill is the problem will be the problem then i do worry I think biggest problem this season has been sod and his attempt to destroy our wing play which is how we always played. what more you want from sod's choice of waggstaff gives his all actually helps out sam trying to close down defenders sod system didn't suit him but I think he gonna get better under a better fit for the club in cotterill. another question for you how come your hero mr o'driscoll is still out of a job
It's Red Robins hero not Redprint Tiger, Redprint thought he was a idiot as well. I do wish he would scale his idiots though because I get so confused with everyone being an idiot. Except Banksy he's a plank
Wingplay? I am a GREAT fan of using the width (I used to play left wing myself) - so WHY, when we had both Adomah AND Bolassie - who were used to playing on opposite wings, didn't we play them both at the same time? We had the weapons to tear Championship sides apart..... Anyway, those days are long gone - and the moment has passed.
I have to agree, COTTERILL OUT. If he can't win 4 games in a row, then we need to get in someone who can.
