The new stand looks superb and is a credit to the club, you only have to think back to old Ninian Park to see how far we have come. However, the camera picks out how empty it is, and will continue to be possibly for the rest of the season, thus throwing up a potential lack of atmosphere, which could have a detrimental effect on team performance. Always looking to the future to entice young fans, why not offer seats for a couple of quid to youngsters to provide, a full house and a bit of a screech?
MM, yep, have to agree with you. I thought it was pretty quiet where I was sat. Although I was pretty much sat on my own in the seat I was sat. It must be my deodourant!
It did sound all a bit "hollow" even with 20K in there, disappointing in fact. From where I sit, the new stand looks a magnificent addition to the ground, but at the moment an unnecessary one. Can't knock the ambition and commitment of Tan in funding it - we now just need to start filling it by getting the show on the road and staying top 6 (preferably top 2) for the rest of the season.
I'd rather them close it and fill the rest of the ground first, 20k attendance was disappointing but we are back in the Championship and we knew that stand would never be full!
Not really. It was as expected IMO plus the undeniable fact there were not 20,700 actually there (more like 17000). Plenty of fans still on holiday; Huddersfield not a big draw for walk up fans and a lot of people had not renewed following last seasons disaster. Some games will attract more, and of course if the team stays in top 6.
Sat there for Wolfsburg and Real Madrid games. Great views once you get used to the extra distance. You get to see moves building and players making moves which you rarely pick up from close to the pitch where I normally sit. One downside, either a long wait for the lift or 106 steps up and then another 12 or so from the concourse. Not for the faint hearted or anyone who has trouble climbing stairs. As for last Saturday, those sat up top (say 2,000 ish) obviously didn't fill seats that were used last season hence the gaps in the rest of the stadium. Huddersfield bought 6/800 fans leaving 1,200/1,400 empty in the away end and as Nin says many people would still be on holiday. I guess Wigan will bring even less tonight but hope the home support will improve for a good old fashioned evening game under lights and after a performance Saturday to give us some encouragement - tougher game tonight though. Going back to the Madrid/Seville game where very little comment made in here. What a great night. Top level football - I hope Ole made our guys watch it and appreciate the art of ball retention. If they did, they didn't learn their lessons last Saturday. Great enthusiasm from both sets of Spanish supporters but Seville fans get the prize for the best set of "away" fans seen at CCS since opening. They kept it up from start to finish even when their team was clearly going to lose and then turned their backs and did the Poznan so they didn't have to watch Real celebrate at the end. Lol!!! They had 6 or 7 guys at the front who appeared to watch little of the game but orchestrated all their chants and moves. I've seen German fans do the same at Champions League games. Perhaps they do it by rotation so get to see a bit of football?
"One downside, either a long wait for the lift or 106 steps up and then another 12 or so from the concourse. Not for the faint hearted or anyone who has trouble climbing stairs". Not putting words in your mouth Blue, but I thought you were going on to "or old boys like Sparkey"! By the way pal, noticed your prediction for tonight's game wasn't the usual 3-1. A risky move after your fabulous haul Saturday. Sheep's 2-1 was there for all to see though. Me, just had a poor game!
Listen Dom - as Groucho once said - "your only as old as the woman you feel". I'm coming up to 57 next month and I think Bluey's said he's just turned 60. Now how old are you pal. I heard your birth certificate is on papyrus.............
Fair comment Aber - lots of empty spaces again tonight. Better to have seats filled cheaply than swathes of blue - and red - plastic. Can only improve the atmosphere as well. You know it is quiet when you can hear the players talking to each other.
Why not put escalators in like the Millenium Stadium has got , or is it a H&S issue in football grounds after tragedies like Hillsborough ?
