new stamps

The post office has issued some new postage stamps with british football great's.Jimmy Greaves and Dave Mackay are two of them,no Arsenal or Chelsea players amonst them though,some of the others are;John Charles Bobby Moore ,Gordon Banks,Bobby Charlton George Best,& Denis Law

 

Greavesie did score over 100 goals for Chelsea

 

and i was waiting for that from a chav

 

Ok, Greavsie is a reformed Chav.

Does John Barnes really deserve to be in such company ??

 

I was just thinking the same. One great goal against Brazil and not much else.

 

I would guess he's included for being the first "high-profile" black player for England.

 

Surely Viv Anderson would've been a better selection, despite being an ex-Goon? Actually won more, too.

 

The Arsenal players are on the French stamps.

 

Personally can't believe our Azza missed the cut.

John Barnes currently talking on Sky's Fantasy Football show about being chosen for a Royal mail stamp and there's been several showings of his goal against Brazil. No doubt about it, it was a great goal.

 

Barnes is a tory and therefore 'acceptable' to the establishment.

He might be a one goal wonder but he's our one goal wonder!

 

So if 'winning more' was the criteria for being chosen there would have been a few changes to those that actually did get chosen.

 

So how will you now tell us that Barnes selection is justified?

 

I think it's justified. Barnes did a huge amount for black football in this country, his legacy is arguably greater than many of the others on the list. Footballing greatness shouldn't be based purely on individual success or ability, but what the contribution is for future generations to enjoy.
