It seems that we were singing a new song at Chesterfield on Saturday and I look forward to be able to sing it when we play Walsall on Sunday. I have learned it and it goes very simply CHAMPIONS! Sounds good doesn't it!- Taken us 60 years to sing it too!
Isn't it about time that we found ourselves a new anthem to go along with the revamped stadium? We need a "You'll never walk alone" type of mentality and a newer upbeat song that can have the words changed to suit our criteria and then we can rid ourselves of the old style stuff that we dish up today. Don't want to upset anyone over my comments but if we want the image of Bristol City to change, and we all do, then let's get something that says to the rest of the league that we have changed lanes and are now close to the fast lane. Just a thought for discussion.
In The Liverpool Slums (to the tune of In My Liverpool Home) is long overdue for a reappearance For the word Liverpool you just substitute the name/location of the opposition Then there's Who's Your Father Referee and many others from the era of racism and xenophobia
I think you are very right Mike. Most of the chants and "in songs" of the moment are known only by very regular supporters and those who are in the "singing" groups. Even Drink up thy Zyder is not something that trips off the tongue for non Adge/Wurzel fans. Yet some of the best known football club anthems are just popular songs that caught on with lots of fans at the same time for in some cases, very obscure reasons. Here are just a few other than You'll Never Walk Alone. Delilah - Stoke C Irene - NLBR Bubbles - WHU Keep Right On To The End Of The Road - Birmingham City ( played over the tannoy during their 1951 cup run to S/Final and suddenly the whole St Andrews crowd were singing it. And it has stuck ever since) All of these were just popular songs that clicked. So I will throw one in. ABBA and "I Had A Dream". Almost everyone of all ages would know the words and tune. The Singers could adapt it like "We have a Team" The one thing we can do without is the dreary dirge from the 2012 Olympics that was fine for an opening ceremony but a total dampener of atmosphere at football.
brings to mind an old song, sang on the east end at the opposition... sing something simple you simple c@@@ts, definitely one us oldies.
Get the wurzels to right another song Or we could get a Dirty Dutch Banger as our anthem, get the gate rocking when the base drops
I like the 'sister mother uncle brother' song, to the tune of the Addams Family ........................... sung with gusto and musical prowess at the City ground, Nottingam in our last promotion season - the 'Forest Family'
Did you know that Stoke get marked down in the UEFA fair play system every time their fans sing Delilah
Song? we need an Anthem to get the place rocking, something like "we will rock you", maybe "Flint will rock you"?
