Submitted by Andrew Slevison on Fri, 01/06/2012 - 18:19 QUOTE QPR boss Neil Warnock says he plans to have his transfer priorities signed and sealed by mid-January but has refrained from commenting on who they are. The R’s have been heavily linked with Blackburn Rovers centre-back Christopher Samba and Chelsea equivalent Alex in the past few days but Warnock, who is also after a striker, failed to name his targets when suggesting they would be stitched up before their next Premier League match against Newcastle United on January 15. ""We are working very hard behind the scenes and before Newcastle we want them in place," he said. "That is what we're working towards. "We have a number of people we're looking at," he said. "I won't be commenting on anybody. It is not fair really. "We're looking at a number of players and we need experience in certain positions and also we need goals. "There are a couple of ingredients we're looking at and we're trying to improve as many areas as we can in the squad." UNQUOTE So he's got just over a week - that's optimistic
It would be nice but I am wondering if this is a bit of gamesmanship to hurry up the clubs we have made offers to players for.
Could well be. Although it would be good to actually have players in by the Newcastle game... it's a bit of a freebie really (I don't think anyone's expecting us to get a result at ST JAMES PARK given Newcastle's form this season), so it represents an opportunity to let the new signings get some game time together before some of the more important games we have coming up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Rodrigo_Dias_da_Costa It says in the main body of the text that "He was transferred to QPR in the 2012 January transfer window." but his 'Current Club' in the profile down the side currently says Chelsea... hate to point it out as I hope we sign him, but anyone can edit Wikipedia.
I remember he made similar predictions in the summer transfer window but we didn't sign anyone until the final week. Fear this will be the same. Agents and players will stall for better offers. We are QPR after all.
