And it's the ****ing Charlton keeper... WTF?!

"Having confirmed the patently obvious need to recruit a goalscorer and a left back before the transfer window closes, Alan Pardew is set to make a further dip into the transfer market - to sign a goalkeeper....

Charlton Athletic 'keeper Rob Elliot is expected on Tyneside soon to complete a permanent transfer.

25 year-old Elliot - linked with West Ham recently - is in the final year of his current contract and turned down a new deal at the League One club.

That prompted the recent arrival of Ben Hamer from Reading who took squad number 1. However, Elliot has played in all three of Charlton's league games so far this season.

Signing his first professional contract at The Valley in 2004, Elliot debuted in March 2005, while on loan to Notts County. A season and a half with Accrington Stanley then followed before he an Addicks debut in April 2008 - the first of three games he played before their boss Alan Pardew lost his job as Charlton manager.

Charlton fan sites first linked Elliot with a move to SJP back in May of this year, claiming that the Kent-born former Republic of Ireland youth international was set to link up again with ex-Addicks goalkeeper coach Andy Woodman, now fulfilling that role at Gallowgate.

This looks to be another nail in the coffin for Steve Harper, while Swedish U21 international 'keeper Ole Soderberg obviously has no future on Tyneside. And presumably Fraser Forster's return to Celtic has ended up as a loan due to the inability of the SPL club (or anyone else) to meet our asking price for a permanent transfer. "

Even if he was ****ing cover, why the hell are we getting him?!
We've got Harper, Soderberg and can surely recall Forster if needs must.
And he looks like a right ****ing **** too

What the hell is the point in this? Instead of pushing through for a LB before the weekend they go and sign a GK? Nicely done.

Until it is officially announced on NUFC.co.uk I'd take it all with a pinch of salt.

Saw him play at Bournemouth last year and was really impressed. The lad looks quality.

For a keeper, he is young.

WTF! Pardew is a ****ing tool! We need a LB and ST, he decides to go out and buy a keeper for **** sake.

At the end of the day, we're not really gonna start him over Krul or Harper (or I bloody hope not) so what's the point in getting him?

I know he's got links with Andy Woodman and Pardew but still, he can **** RIGHT off!

You are aware its possible to work on more than one transfer at any time? (In before everyone at NUFC is thick)

Lets face it, we'd need a new keeper sooner or later if Forster want's to go and Sodeberg isn't good enough. Harper will probably be retiering or moving on in a couple of seasons.

When I saw this thread I was like 'Yessss, Pieters/Cissokho/Maiga', then I was like 'eh?', then I boiled over with fury.

This better not be the end for Steve Harper. The club better not start ****ing him around as well he has been a brilliant servant to the club.

This keeper better be Harpers future replacement (ie. 2/3 years), not his immediate one!

Yes, he looked confident with the ball at his feet, good communication with his defenders, and a good shot stopper. We may not really need another keeper but I really rate this lad, so if we pick him up cheaply it could actually be good business.
