    According to the Pink'un twitter site Norwich are set to anounce their first new signing - Jacob Butterfield - anyone know anything about him? All I know is he is a midfielder who plays for Barnsley, 22 years old. Don't know how good he is

    Pretty solid I think. Bit of a Lambert buy, this one, if true! young, British, Lower league, Potential. Not convinced we need yet another midfielder, unless Howsen is off or he is going to get rid of some reserve midfielders. Would much rather our first signing be a defender.

    You have no reason to be underwhelmed, he is a fantastic player. Although we finished 21st while Jacob was fit and we had VazTe we were hanging around the play-offs. Butterfield created more or less all of our chances.

    I will be gutted if it's true but all the best to him if he does go, would love to see a youngster from our club become successful. If he stays I expect him to leave for a minimum of 4 million in Janruary. If it wasn't for Micheal Brown putting him out for the season he would've been gone in Jan along with Vaz Te.

    Interesting to hear this, thanks.

    I've looked him up (admittedly on wikipedia as I'd not really heard about him!) but he does have impressive stats, and would mean we had another youngest ever captain of his previous club!

    I must admit, other than right-back, I'm quite happy to get in another central midfielder- I don't think Crofts is the way forward. We currently have Fox, Johnson, Surman and Howson (I think Korey Smith could be great in a year or two, but isn't quite there). If any get injured/sold and we're trying to play 4-5-1, I think we'd look a bit light, so an extra midfielder of Butterfield's calibre won't go amiss.

    Should be a solid signing. Certainly addressing the areas we need to strengthen. On a free should be good business.

    Pretty happy with that. Defender which we need, Russ can play CB more if needed. More of a wing-back so will add to attack too. Nice.
