Bristol Rovers are delighted to announce that Jamie White today becomes the first summer signing for the club. The striker from Salisbury City will once again link up with his former manager Darrell Clarke. The 24-year-old, who averaged a goal every other game while at Salisbury, has joined Rovers after he became a free agent after terminating his contract at Salisbury City.

So he had terminated his contract at Salisbury. Wonder how Salisbury feel about this??

“I have worked with Jamie before and he is a great signing for the club. I signed him when I was at Salisbury and he is a goalscorer who averages one goal every two games, and he has the potential to be a 20 goal a season man. He is proven at this level and has the potential to further his career with us. I look forward to working with him. He broke into the Southampton first team at a young age, but had a couple of injuries. He bounced back in the Non League and I signed him from Winchester. I am looking to bring in a mix of experienced players and young and hungry guys, and I hope Jamie is the first of many signings.”

“I am delighted to welcome Jamie to the club. Darrell has worked with him before, and was keen to bring him to Bristol Rovers. He is a proven goal scorer at this level, and we hope he can do the same again for us. We are all glad to get the recruitment underway, and we hope to have another new face in next week.”

His goal scoring record at Winchester was amazing - he broke the club and league record with over 50 goals. He looks like a natural goal scorer, which is just what we need.

We've been watching players who usually can't hit a barn door for ages, so it will be a refreshing change to see someone banging a few in. I hope he gets off to a good start otherwise the usual boo boys will get on his back and his confidence will drain away like so many other decent players.

Bring it on...

to be honest im 50/50 on this.

i think our 1st signing is a gamble signing. our 1st signing should be showing our intent to this league, a bigger name who has a much better record, showing the league we mean business.

the positive is about this deal: he does have a good record in this league when he plays.
the negative is the 'when he plays part'. he has a poor injury record. another injury prone player we have signed which is why i call this a gamble signing. do we ever learn <doh>

if we can keep him fit then great but we are rovers, when have we signed a injury prone player and actually keep him fit?

obviously clarke trusts him as worked together before. i just hope this aint another buckle situation who signed his mates who he worked with before and took them to us with him.

i will support the lad like i do with all the players. im not having a go at him so dont think im being negative towards him before he even kicks a ball for us. i just think this signing could be a mistake due to his injury record. thats my concern. i hope it works out for him here.

clarke said 2 strikers will join us. so we know white is 1. we dont know the other yet. but we also have harrold and brunt up front.

brunt didnt play at all last season due to a serious injury. we have no idea how he will play on his return.
harrold was injured nearly the whole season before and didnt hit form at all last season scoring just 6 all season in the league.

if white gets injured again with us, without knowing who our 2nd new striker will be, i can see us struggling for goals again like the season just gone.

Agree with above comments,

It could well help other potential signings deciding to join/re-sign
