City capture Chelsea's Kalas Thursday, August 23rd 2018 City have recruited Tomas Kalas to their defensive ranks on a season-long loan from Chelsea. The versatile 25-year-old can play either as a right-back or centre-back. He becomes Lee Johnson’s ninth signing of the summer, with the loan window remaining open until the end of August. The City head coach said: “Tomas’ signing shows the ambition that Bristol City have because there was a lot of interest and we beat a number of Championship and top European clubs to get him. “The experience Tomas brings to this football club will be invaluable and I am really looking forward to working with him. “He has already proven himself at Championship level and I have no doubts that he can help us in our bid to reach new heights.” Gallery please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image PrevNext please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image City chief executive officer Mark Ashton said: “We are delighted to have furthered the relationship we have had with Chelsea over the last few years with the signings of Tammy Abraham, Jay Dasilva and now Tomas. There was a lot of interest from other clubs but Tomas was someone Lee wanted and the relationship with Chelsea has worked well for both clubs and we hope it continues.” After signing for Chelsea in 2010, Kalas rejoined former side Sigma Olomouc before spending two seasons at Vitesse Arnhem. He spent the first of two loan spells at FC Cologne before he was recalled to his parent club and made his Chelsea debut in a 2-0 win against Arsenal in October 2013. He would return to the German club on loan though, before he was loaned to Middlesbrough, where Kalas helped the Smoggies reach the Premier League after winning promotion from the Championship in 2015/16. He then spent the 2016/17 campaign and last season with Fulham, who he also helped win promotion to the top flight
Seems a great signing, mature and a class act, well done LJ, a big leap in the right direction. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomáš_Kalas
BUT WHAT ABOUT TAMMY, cant we have him till Christmas …… Good signing, another from Chelsea, at 25 is he likely to be a loan with a price attached ie ..£3m or so? he must have signed a new contract with them as he signed a 3 year deal in 2015? At 25 a bit old to maybe think about a career at Chelsea? Years Team Apps (Gls) 2009–2010 Sigma Olomouc 1 (0) 2010– Chelsea 2 (0) 2010–2011 → Sigma Olomouc (loan) 4 (0) 2011–2013 → Vitesse (loan) 66 (2) 2014 → 1. FC Köln (loan) 0 (0) 2014 → 1. FC Köln II (loan) 2 (0) 2015 → Middlesbrough (loan) 17 (0) 2015–2016 → Middlesbrough (loan) 26 (0) 2016–2017 → Fulham (loan) 36 (1) 2017–2018 → Fulham (loan) 33 (0 ) 2018 >>>>> city ................. he has spent 8 years on loan, and interestingly played a part in Fulhams promotion but not good enough to sign him again or for a fee! hopefully might work out!
the Chelsea loans had 3 players, from the 20 up for going on loan this am not attached as yet TOMAS WAS ONE OF THEM, THEY NOW HAVE 2 MORE AND TAMMY AINT ON THE LIST?
It really bothers me that the top teams seem to have an unlimited supply of talented young players who could possibly never see a minute of first team play. Sounds like hoarding to me and if they really like Tammy then why the hell not play him, but better still send him our way on a free till the end of the season. All these players begging to get some game time seems counter productive to me.
I would think they will be considering him in their squad this year if they are turning down £25 million offers. https://metro.co.uk/2018/08/23/chel...mmy-abraham-on-transfer-deadline-day-7877076/ Plus he’s on a reported 40k a week, so are we supposed to ask Chelsea to let us have him and pay his wages?
Probably because when they loan players out they get their wages paid for them, plus they get a loan fee. On OTIB it’s being said Swansea paid £5 million for Tammy’s loan fee plus paid his wages. It’s suggested that this time he’s going out for more, like £9 million this time. I’m sure you can now see why they hold onto these players, when they can make this sort of money on them. So when people are saying that they want Tammy, if it’s true what’s being discussed on OTIB, then it will cost us £9 million plus 50k a week.
Good signing & about time . As for Tammy whilst loans have served him well so far , and I know he’s still a very young , I think he would be best served signing for a club that will play him , unless Chelsea are going to play him this season they should have sold him for his sake.
If all of that is true it’s not really good for the player though, whilst in Tammy’s case £50k a week is not to be sneezed at, it would surely be better to belong to and play for a club, rather than being passed from pillar to post. I think there should be a limit to the number of players any club can loan out in any season.
Chelsea's official list is less than 30 … still had 2 unloaned yesterday? ! media reports stated earlier [ few months back ] that they in excess of 40? out on loan! last season city have quite a few and LJ stated one of the squad could do with being loaned out now we have KALAS......
