Today it has been reported that Ipswich will be making a move to bring Sylvain Ebanks Blake to the club.... Not a big surprise and I imagine Mick will have him training with us when he can before offering terms, but could be a very useful asset to us in our current predicament and well worth the risk of a 1 year deal..

Also, Keanu Marsh-Brown has been tweeting that he is "en route [to] Suffolk" and recently turned down the chance to join us on deadline day.. The plot thickens further as Barnet confirmed he wasn't available (and didn't play) in their fixture last night... at the same time as he tweeted. I would imagine it'll be a loan with a fee agreed for January etc.*

*That is ofcourse there isn't another reasonable explanation to his journey to Suffolk

    Thoughts?

    Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.... YES PLEASE!! <ok>

Power, Pace and know's where the goal is and he will be the perfect foil for McGoldrick. He ripped up the Championship with his goals for the Wolves side that got promoted and also did a decent job in the Premiership.

He also lives in Cambridge so would be a decent move for him as well.

SEB - who would he replace? He is 5ft8 so we cant really swap him for Murphy as we would have no height. Would it mean pushing Murphy wide again? a change of formation? dropping McGoldrick? (I hope not)
I know we can mix and match depending on each game but I dont really see a logical situation

KMB - cant say I know anything of him.

I would have SEB upfront alongside McGoldrick any day of the week! Murphy doesn't score enough goals and bringing in SEB will be a positive move. You cant keep a player upfront because he has height! You have to ask yourself If the Murphy/McGoldrick combo is working then why haven't we scored more goals! Or is that being too simplistic?

I also think that by bringing in SEB that will facilitate a loan move away from the club for Taylor who is in desperate need of games. There aren't any single negatives to bringing in SEB as far as I can see but then again this is Ipswich after all! <laugh>

Totally agree JWM - on ability/ likely to score more then SEB? McGoldrick looks the better option but one of our main tactics this season is hitting it long to Murphy. If hes not in the picture we lose our height. Our lack of goals, for me, has been down to a lack of creation from midfield/ wide men but I have also said numerous times this season that our current strikers dont seem to instintively know where the net is. A natural striker can get a shot away with his first touch before a striker has time to react. Murphy especally doesnt have this and McGoldricks goals mainly seem to be more about guile than that naturally instinct.

at least its a nice problem to have - two many options rather than not enough

It is indeed a nice problem to have regarding options up front and as Hoppers says, if this makes us play more football up to the front 2 then surely this is a positive thing? We seem to be wanting to 'play' to Murphy's aerial strength atm which usually ends up with us losing possession. SEB is a natural goal poacher with that special instintc that all good strikers have. What would the result have been against Wigan if we had a fit SEB up front!

I agree Spanish that fitness is the only concern but I am sure that Mick will integrate him into the side gradually. i would expect to see him come off the bench for the first few games before starting him.

It does beg the question of "What about Taylor?"..... though as mentioned above, he could go out on loan (though I very much doubt MM will do that)

I think it is pretty obvious that Mick doesn't rate him and I wouldn't be surprised to see a parting of the ways either in january or at the end of the season! IMO he needs to be taken on loan by another club in order to get some much needed games under his belt.

" I think it is pretty obvious that Mick doesn't rate him "

Well he came on and played 30 outwide last game, and apparently played well. Lets hang fire on comments like that! Horrific injury and will take a while. Lets see how long Taylor gets v Brighton

I thought Hunt was too expensive in the summer, maybe his demands will be affordable now.

As for Ebanks - unsure!! Will take him a while to get up and running, wages could be an issue also!?

...Oh I did say that there were no down sides to this but I have just remembered that my eldest has a birthday coming up and he will want Sylvan Ebanks-Blake on the back of his shirt. God I will need to take out a loan to afford all those letters!

On a negative note, Evening star is reporting SEB would only be here until January as he wants to join a premier league club and cant until the window re-opens. We help rebuild his fitness and get a decent player but know we only have him for a maximum of 3 months.
One of which he may not even be fit for.
Why cant we just do things properly? Look at the lower leagues and make an offer (yes an offer, no freebies) for someone who could potentially add to our squad for the next 2 or 3 years and then possibly sell (YES selling is also an option at most clubs) for a profit.
Not moaning at MM but the ME group really needs to focus on where we are heading.

I agree with you TB on your last post and it goes right to the knub of what I have been arguing since the Summer! If Evans has any real ambitions left for this club then he has to make SEB a decent offer and not just this stop gap deal. Alternatively I would like to see us make an offer for Nahki Wells in January but I doubt this will happen. For now SEB could be the answer to our problems up front so I guess this will just have to do for now!
