Southampton recently signed a 7 year deal with Under Armour, they haven't disclosed the value of the contract but we've got to be talking millions not £5.50 our deal is worth!! (Tongue in cheek in case Dai doesn't get it)

But read the article in the local rag, the deal is not about selling shirts locally or UK wide, it all about the brand being sold world wide. Especially in the US, which is the market we need to be exploiting, Joma wont do that for us.

Currently you can get a Swans kit in JD Sports in Oxford Street, London. I wonder if they will be on sale there next season? I doubt it.

There are so many other companies out there that would have made sense and would be a brand that people would want to own and wear (world Wide) that certainly isn't Joma. I understand none of us know what we are getting out of it from them. But they will certainly lose out on commercial sales, people simply wont buy it, maybe the shirt but that is it.

very short sighted of the Swans, but somehow with everything that has gone on this year it doesn't surprise me, it seems bad decision on bad decision.

The problem is Dai we are not just talking about the shirt but all the addons of the replica kit eg, jackets, tracksuits etc. We should be focusing on maximising commercial sales and selecting a brand that is not high profile or a global name will impact on this. We constantly moan about about lacking income outside of ticket sales and sponsorship and commercial sales is the biggest part of this.

I am surprised this has been done prior to the new owners signing on the dotted line. I would have thought that they would have wanted a say on this considering they would want to maximise their investment

Or maybe they have had a say in it and if they have the signs don't look to good.

Lotta maybes , not as bothered about the outcome of Maybe's as I am about when it comes . Let's get things moving so whoever owns and whoever manages the team can use the time to build . Time is of the essence in our scenario .

Fans will be queuing outside the club shop early wanting to be the first to wear the new shirt whoever the brand of the shirt is.....they always do.

Why smaller queues stereo.? The brand is neither here or there, It's the new shirt fans are after......We could have steptoe and son with a new brand and the fans will still be outside the shop having camped out in the rain all night to buy one......barmy i know but true......

I think you're being optimistic here Dai. There will obviously be a hardcore of fans who will buy the kit no matter what. However there are some people who are more on the fence about the strip. This is where losses will be made.
I remember as a kid wanting Adidas Kick trainers and my mother saying - "what about these Gola ones - they're lovely - they're just trainers". The thing is they're not - it's the whole aura around a brand - look at Apple. You can guarantee there will be rival fans in school yards taking the piss out of the fact that Joma are the kit suppliers. Kids wanna be cool. Simple as. Old people don't care so much about cool. It's evident from posts and newspaper reports that fans are unhappy about this.
There's a reason nobody else in the PL is wearing Joma.

Swansea City have announced a new kit deal with Joma

SWANSEA City have announced that Joma will be their kit suppliers from next season — but the new strips are unlikely to be unveiled until June.

Swansea have ended their five-year association with adidas and instead signed what the club are calling a multi-year deal with Joma, who they say will provide them with bespoke kit from next season.

The Spanish company, who are ranked among the top 10 sports companies in the world, will provide Swansea with a new home and away kit, footwear, training and leisurewear.

"This really is an exciting partnership," said Swansea vice-chairman Leigh Dineen.

    "I believe it's a fantastic match.

"We have been discussing this working partnership for some time and their enthusiasm for the project and the club has been overwhelming.

"While Joma is a major world player in the quality manufacture and supply of sportswear and footwear, their flexibility, focus and commitment to Swansea City has impressed everyone at the club.

"They have been fully committed to providing the club with exclusivity, autonomy and a bespoke kit that is different to everyone else and designed with the players and fans very much in mind.

"Like Swansea City, Joma is a close-knit and family-focused company that is modern and dynamic. We both aim to deliver sporting excellence."

It's not the local die hards that will buy the shirts and they won't give a toss who made it. I buy a top, but it does depend on what it looks like. My point is just selling kits to locals will only bring in a small amount of shirt sales. I'd love to know the % of shirts we sell in the UK and what is sold outside of the UK. It's the sales outside the UK that will hit us, were trying to raise the profile of the club worldwide attracting overseas fans. We then hope these new fans will purchase replica kit, sweatshirts etc thus increasing our revenue stream. Now with a global brand, we have better chances of selling more kit than an unknown company outside of it's usual stream, most fans would never have heard of Joma.

I see the terms are mentioned as for the forth coming season, so reading between the lines, Adidas contract is finished, we need a kit supplier and Joma fits the bill for one year. So season 2017 - 2018 we will have a Yank kit supplier, thats if the take over goes through.

There are a lot of options to spending money on sports gear this day and age , the best name made with a great design is what everyone strives for .
Not sure what we are striving for from this change , but then most of what is important to the club is a guess with our board anyways ... Isn't it .

A lot of Adidas stuff is very boring and poor in design, I have never understood the love in with Adidas, and I shall give my view when I see the kit. I have looked at a number of Joma kits for other top clubs, and they have been very good, and if you look at the Cardiff kit they did a few seasons back, I think it was one of the best they have ever had, considering of course it's Cardiff..............<laugh>

I have a ton of shirts, scarfs , collectables in general , from everywhere imaginable . All from charity shops for peanuts . Even the two centennial shirts I have were bought for me new right from Swansea , and I'll wear them till I can't ... I won't get caught up in buying new stuff every season , it's out of control in the " Sports World "

We need to be marketing globally not just locally. So whilst there may be queues at the club shop there wont be much uptake elsewhere. As i said earlier the shirts are a small part of it, the leisure clothing needs to sell too and although adidas may not be everyones cup of tea an adidas branded tracksuit/polo shirt/training top etc will always be more attractive than less well known brands and therefore sell better.
