There is talk that the Aussies have a five-year plan to get us back into the top flight. I hope this isn't true. Cunning plans don't work in football. Get the basics right, good scouting, good management and good players, who can stick the ball in the back of the net. Roland had a cunning plan, got all the basics badly wrong, and here we are.
Perhaps these people have a corporate culture where having plans makes them feel secure and focused, and maybe they feel it projects the right image to investors or sponsors. Obviously the commercial / financial side of the Club will have plans and targets to guide its future. But I agree there is no real need for a 'Grand Design' on the footballing side of things to get Charlton back into the top league within a set time frame. If we have a good manager who is well supported by the Club and can bring in most of the players he wants, we will begin to win games. We can only play one game at a time, but if we can get the team right and win more often than we draw or lose, promotions will take care of themselves.
The sheen has come off this takeover for me. Its taken too long, with too many rumours that the Aussies are short of cash. Grandstanding at the Play Offs doesn't sit well with me when 5 weeks later Duchatelet is still selling our assets. If A.M does take over this week, he has a huge job on.
In which one of those 27 seasons? All of them Not sure of I've ever mentioned it, but it's the most one-sided local derby in world football.
