Been spending most of the barren desert of the football-free Summer watching and listening to new music and offer the following small sample for your consideration. Snarky Puppy - Quartermaster - best jazz band I've ever seen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1cskIan5Jw She Makes War (Laura Kidd) - currently my favourite artist, don't miss her live. Extraordinary. 'Scared to Capsize' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5w-utqTYpeo 'Slow Puncture' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5hzO-s2LA4 Emily Barker - 'Ghost Narrative' - magic moment when the Telecaster cuts in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRWZfTsnSbk Sparrow and the Workshop - 'The Faster You Spin' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDrhWGepIvs This track live was like being hit round the head with a plank...best song about politics in a while. Paper Aeroplanes - 'Multiple Love' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-pCWWNEiaA Hope you enjoy this lot - it'd be good to see what everyone else is listening to. Tewkes
That's a shame you missed Bowie's "Outside" then. In my opinion it's his best album. You should give it a listen
Had a good listen today and have to thank you for pointing me in the direction of most of them. Particularly liked Paper Aeroplanes, Sparrow and the Workshop. tbh only one I wont follow up on is the first one. See attached link from an earlier thread. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/217905-Up-and-Coming-Bands I'm back listening to the Likely Lads, Lykke Li, Lana Del Rey and RAF (a Mod band from the US). Thank goodness for some actual music, thought I'd posted on the wrong board. These are great RH, love the first one and I've passed the other two on to a couple of old Mods who'll fall over when they hear them. Thanks for posting the other thread as well, there's some fine stuff on there and I'll do some more investigating. Paper Aeroplanes were great when I saw them at The Colston in Bristol and I'd also seen an acoustic set a couple of weeks previous. The singer Sarah Howells, is also heavily in demand as a singer of voice overs for dance music - there's several examples of this on YouTube and the Sunday Times had an article on her and other genre hopping singers last week. Joined a music group on the MeetUp site and that's a good way of getting to see artists you wouldn't normally come across. Good time to be a music fan in Bristol at the moment, the place is sizzling.
Just thought I would post this from a band I came across New Street Adventure
and another Dexters
