Kenny Dalglish has questioned the wisdom of starting the new season after midweek internationals. England is to play friendly on Wednesday 10 August against Netherland. Scotland vs Denmark, and many others. Read more:http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13811612.stm:(
FIFA want to extend the number of internationals per year from 12 to 17. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jun/14/fifa-international-friendlies-europe-clubs Also, Sir Brooking has blamed coaching for the poor U21s. That's the coaching the FA were supposed to have been improving since we failed to qualify for the World Cup twice in the 70s, when skill was being coached out of the game to produce "Dirty Leeds" and the like. WTF have they been doing? Oh yeah, encouraging academies, youth programs, coaching improvements, blah blah blah. Everything except fewer games and less media expectation.
It's daft. The England game is a friendly. Why play a friendly the Wednesday before the new season?! I can sort of understand if they were Euro 2012 qualifiers but I can't understand a friendly. It's just so that the FA can make some more money.
International breaks should be LONGER,and a lot less frequent They should leave the club side for 3 weeks, play 3 qualifyin games, and 1 friendly. If you did this you could have 3/4 int breaks every 2 years ( not includin tournaments),instead as it is at the mo havin about 6 int breaks per season ... RIDICULOUS Also all the fans, should STOP GOING TO ENGLAND GAMES,BOYCOTT THEM, if they dont make money out of them, they wont play them, would LOVE to see a crowd of less than 10,000 v Holland in August, if England got this sort of crowd for a few int friendles, thye would stop playin um.But idiots still attend the games
Don't know how old you are but you sound as though you were not around to see Revie's sides all practice their 'if it moves kick it' tactics.
Not old enough to have seen the Revie days first hand, but from what I've seen from several matches on video, they were actually a very skilful passing side in the 70s. From 64-68, they probably were the dirty side everyone seems to wilfully remember as they were trying to establish themselves at the top of the first division under a relatively inexperienced manager at the time. That seems to be the consensus among the reputable authors who've covered that era too.
