Has anyone heard any news recently, it all seems to have gone very quiet. I thought work was meant to have started by now, wonder if they are waiting to see what division we are in next year.

There have been the inevitable rumours (mostly negative) about the apparent delay in starting Cookie. The official line is:

"As you are hopefully aware, following a lengthy negotiation process over various planning conditions, the Club received formal planning permission in July this year from Hammersmith and Fulham council. This decision was then further approved by the GLA.

As a result, we are keen to start building work as soon as is practicable and are in negotiation with the Port of London authority – who manage the River Thames – to obtain a River works licence./B]

It is the nature of these major construction projects, especially when it involves the River Thames, in a sensitive residential area, that a number of planning hurdles and regulatory bodies need to be satisfied before work can start."

As I understand things, work must start before July 2015 or the planning permission will lapse.

Sadly Eusebio passed away today. As you’ll remember, the Riverside Stand was opened just over forty years ago, in a prestigious friendly against S.L. Benfica, who included Eusebio in the team.

The Riverside Stand was originally terracing that backed onto the Thames. It also featuerd large advertising hoardings above the fans. By 1972, a proper seated stand had been built called the Eric Miller Stand (one of the directors at the time). The name of the stand became called simply The Riverside after the discovery of Eric Miller's suicide, who had been under investigation for fraud and embezzelment.

I went to that match. I was 11 at the time and remember the night clearly. Eusebio was one hell of a player and it was a great pleasure to see him play at the cottage.
