Surely staying up now has to be our priority and realistic target. A win against the Scummers at Fratton before Christmas, would also be most welcome and again an achieveable target.
At the moment - yes. But hopefully, our next manager will be given sufficient support from the owners in January to allow us to raise our expectations to a slightly higher level
I'm surprised that Cotterill was allowed to leave so easily. He was your best chance this season unless you manage to attract an even more capable manager. I don't think that he was really allowed to assemble the kind of squad he wanted and had to rely on loans and journeymen. It will be fascinating to see if his successor will be backed up in the pursuit of additions to the squad - assuming that the new manager is allocated a budget will determine how you eventually fair this season. Realistically Pompey should be looking for a play-off position in this league at the very least but the new owners definately seem short of the readies. I'm surprised that the rescue package wasn't quite the panacea that was expected. If the finnanial situation is tight, any manager coming in will struggle and mid-table will be the best you can expect. However, I can't see Pompey getting relegated and see SC's departure as more of a set-back in getting back on track as opposed to something that augurs a descent to the third tier. I don't think that the position / points difference between Saints and Portsmouth will be quite as great at the end of the season but most realistic Pompey fans will recognise that your chances of over-hauling us this season are practically nil. (We've only played Leicester amongst the fellow-promotion hopefuls and the following 4 games will reveal just how good we are. Personally, I don't think we will be in the automatic positions after this stretch but will make the play-offs quite easily.)
