Like others on here, I had my doubts about the appointment of Gareth. The usual stuff was against it: the supposed style of football and the potential trashing of his genuine legend status (an accolade often too easily awarded). But I have warmed to the idea, helped by his articulate, positive and passionate interview. As well as my emotional response, there's logic, too, in looking at his undoubted success at Wycombe on such a slender budget. Certainly, our current squad need a kick up the R's and he is the man to give it. However, reports suggest he is also capable of adapting his management style and putting his arm round the shoulder when necessary, inspiring real warmth in return.

Despite having a season ticket, I wasn't going to bother to go on Saturday. Now, with Gareth on board, wild horses couldn't keep me away. I want to be there to welcome him back and I can't wait to savour what I am sure will be a unique atmosphere. I can usually see something in our new managers which gives me hope for the future but this one is special and I really think it might just work. Unsurprisingly, he's going to get full support from this season ticket holder whatever happens between now and the end of May.
