I was listening to the local news tonight and they reported rumours that Ken Bates might be interested in acquiring Argyle now that he has quit Leeds. Have to say that sort of story came out of the blue somewhat. According to our illustrious President it is nothing but lazy journalism and there is absolutely no truth in it at all. However, makes you think doesn't it. Would we want him if it was true. My answer would be absolutely yes even though he isn't the most favourite club owner of all time elsewhere. At least he might invest.
Well he has a habit of taking up a failing club and ending up selling it for a profit. Bit dubious on the methodology but nonetheless that statement appears to have some legs. Now, to sell a club on for profit must mean by that virtue it is worth something. Argyle at the moment are worth nothing at all so if he continued his streak then it would mean Argyle had recovered and was worth something to somebody. That in itself would be worth him being a pain the arris for a few years wouldn't it? You don't have to fall in love with the man.
Daily Mirror story yesterday morning........good grief we haven't been through anything yet if Ken Bates takes over......PASB & AFT would be dead in the water straight away. My thought on it is......bring back Peter Ridsdale he would be totally harmless compared to Bates.......you just need to check out Chelsea & Leeds fans opinions about that.
I couldn't care less about fan involvement in the club. Lets be honest it is hardly doing anyone any good currently is it. My ony interest is not what we think of him as a person but if he manages to turn the fortunes around financially and makes Argyle a going concern once more. I would take the devil himself if somebody could do that.
OMG the Master in charge..... why the hell not just kick me in the happy sacks, ram a pineapple up my backside, steal my car, rape my dog and get it over with now. Even if he saves us now all he will do us spin us into a decent looking investment with no solid future and bugger off with the profit leaving us to go into admin again!!!!! So that is probably a no thank you from me!!!!!
Well I think yes as he will be better than what we have got.. Chelsea and Leeds are doing ok now!! At least the likes of the Buffoon Webb would be gone, what have they exactly done so far? just had the benefits for them selves. Ken Bates will liven the place up!! we will be in the Press more!!
Bring back Peter Ridsdale if you want to liven the place up.......assuming he isn't in jail at present or totally banned from football......by jove it gets more depressing everytime you think about it, after seven good years.... followed by seven bad years (biblically speaking).......so on the bright side that means only two more years of total dross to put up with............by then I could be watching Argyle two miles down the road from here at Hayes Lane playing Bromley in the Blue Square South.
Bates highlights: In 1976, he set up the Irish Trust Bank. but it was eventually wound up leaving thousands of investors out-of-pocket. In May 2007, Bates' tenure saw Leeds go into administration (with unpaid debts of some £35 million and suffer relegation to the third tier of English football. The following month, a consortium led by him bought the Club back from the Administrators, via offshore companies, for £1.5 million. After the Administration, the Club was considered to be "debt free". During the summer he became unpopular with groups of fans. Protests were held at games demanding that the Chairman should resign. Bates spent 21 years at Chelsea, during which time he attracted the headlines on many occasions (many times with the controversial headlines that the club could have done without) and employed no fewer than nine managers. His match-day programme notes, in which he often attacked various individuals, were also controversial. In 2002 he was sued for libel by Chelsea supporter David Johnstone after describing fans' group, the Chelsea Independent Supporters Association, as parasites; Bates eventually settled out of court. In 2003 he sold the club to Russian oil billionaire Roman Abramovich, for a sum of £140 million making a £17 million profit. Bruce Buck the current Chairman was in charge of the club's sale to Roman Abramovich. After the takeover Bates was investigated by the FSA for allegedly owning undeclared shares in Chelsea Village plc, but the case was eventually dropped. Excellent choice.
Well he does not have any nonsense with managers tho! that could be a good thing. Or fans groups he does not like them... well what use have they been to us so far? Webb has done it for himself and not the club.. buffoon!
At least he made those clubs saleable which they weren't particularly before. If he could achieve selling Argyle at a profit in the end by making IT saleable then I would say that would be firstly a shock and secondly no bad thing because at present it is not worth anything at all to anyone. By that I'm talking as a football club and not including it opening doors to outside development contract probabilities.
