To put it bluntly I can't really be arsed any more and I don't have as much free time as I did, so if anyone fancies having a go at moderating there's a vacancy open, possibly two if you decide we should have four.

Should generate some activity too because it's been depressingly quiet on here recently.

    Modding... Tis a thankless task.

Don't bail on us AG!!! These are dark times, but we are past the winter solstice and only light lay ahead of us... In a mater of days we'll be basking in the sound of engines being fired up once again. So on your feet soldier.. on your feet!!!

    Democratic vote?

Anyone who fancies it put their names forward, a poll can then be had.

I've got some exams at the end of January, so a lot of my time at the moment is going to revision, but I'll still probably be around here a fair amount, so I'll throw my hat into the ring as well. What's the workload like BLS and El_B?

Sad to see you stepping down AG, I had noticed you'd been a lot quieter recently. I take it you'll still be around here contributing to the forum though?

And yeah, ASC's poll sounds like the fairest way of doing things.

During a moment of peace, I just logged in and was surprised to see no new posts in the main forum. Then I noticed this thread.

I would like to congratulate AbsolutelyGlorious for all of his previous efforts, which at times have been substantial. I would also like to thank him for having the decency to publicize his decision in such a way as to revitalise the forum during this naturally low ebb.
    Thanks, AG…

I'll take this opportunity to say that I agree with every single word said so far, by every contributor to this thread. As Bhaji says so eloquently: "Tis a thankless task…" – so thanks to EMSC, ASC and DHC for volunteering their services. All three would bring a new dynamic and would surely do a fine job.

No doubt others will come forward over the next few days; and during this quiet time, I hope it will be seen to be in tune with AG's thoughts to string this thread out for the benefit of all. The only thing I'd like to add is that I feel voters' choices should not be public, so a poll should not show who voted for whom.

This is an excellent, most important thread. Thanks again to AG.

    AG... Noooooo :(

It's pretty quiet around here at the moment so I think any decision needs to be taken over a longer period than normal to give all members a chance to speak up, after all us mods are just doing what the members as a whole want (hopefully).

I think it should definitely be up to a vote some time in the near future. As for the work load its generally not to bad, it only gets a pain when it all kicks off following some sort of incident in a GP.

Hope your still sticking around AG

Credit to AG for doing a great job for what nearly two years? Massive thumbs up <ok>

As for who should replace him well i think this is one of the most mature boards on the site so to be honest you could probably just pick names out of a hat because im sure the vast majority would do a good job. No idea who i'd vote for.

Worth checking what brbs stance towards electing mods by poll is before we do anything though because i remember that syd wasn't keen on it.

I don't think it makes a difference. I think Syd didn't like it because he had some **** from some boards where they couldn't decide properly amongst themselves. That shouldn't be a problem here, like you say there are a lot of sensible candidates, you could probably pick a dozen different members and not have a single complaint.

On the workload thing. There isn't a huge amount to do, it's mostly housekeeping and being there on the off chance it all kicks off. Like I say, I don't have as much time on my hands these days and knew that if I logged on one day to find all hell breaking loose I'd log straight back off again, which is why I thought it best to let someone else take over.

And yeah I'm definitely still sticking around for those who asked. <ok>

This is most disappointing AG. I've been impressed with your moderating as being impartial and objecive is a difficult task for most of us but you've pulled it off, just like EB and BLS have, so it's disappointing but if it suits you then good on ya for saying so anyway <ok>

I'll throw my name into the ring as well, I like challenges :)

Would give you rep but apparently I need to spread some around, which is odd because it says that for a fair few people <doh>

It's sad to see you go AG.

As for a new mod, I'm not sure there's any need for one - very rarely have the moderators needed to intervene this year. All the regular poster would do a good job but if it's just a case of just being around, I think SgtBhaji or RoadRunner would be the best choices as they live in different time zones to the rest of us.

Personally the forum is capable to run it's self smoothly, very rarely do we need a mod to change something provocative and it's mostly misspelling or other mistakes that actual mods need to use their awesome powah.

I would suggest making everybody (within range) a mod so the weight won't be put onto just 3-4 people, but 8-10, that way a certain trusted group will always be around to sort **** out if it arises and not make it a constant part time job for a few people and take up their time.

You don't have to make them full mods, just "submods" and most if not all the people I'm thinking of can be trusted in my opinion.

Oh the horror if PMC decides to make 10 new accounts as a late Christmas gift for the new mod (if we still decide to have one) ;)

Seriously, I would agree with Forza and Silver; at most we only need two mods as it's so incredibly peaceful on here, but I wonder if it has to do with the forum size rather than behavioural management?

Other than the occasional scuffle, we do a pretty good job of moderating ourselves... or at least I'd like to think we do. I think this has to be one of the calmer forum that I have frequented and I am very grateful for that.

I think the forum has calmed down a lot as it's matured. When we first got going, it was a mix of good discussion and utter insanity, so having the 3 mods seemed necessary. The problem we have compared to the football boards is that whilst each football team has it's own board, there's no Ferrari-specific board for example, so pro-Ferrari and anti-Ferrari people are debating in the same place, which can lead to greater arguments than 2 supporters of the same football team arguing over formations, etc.

So now the forum is calmer than it used to be, I think that another mod is only really needed if BLS and El_B feel there's a need for one I suppose? Also, having a mod in another time zone seems like a good idea.

I havnt been posting the last few days but have been viewing from my mobile and this is the first thing I wanted to post on.

Its a shame you are going to leave your moderation role AG but I would like to say its been great working with you and I think everybody here will agree that you have been apart and big influence on how the F1 board has been shaped and well moderated. This year has been pretty good moderation wise as the 'Bad Guys' have been snapped up quickly and all we have had to deal with is SPAM.

On the issue of new mods I think only 3 are needed for the time being as it has worked pretty well and there is not enough need for a 4th. Though maybe we could have a new mod dedicated to the main board and another for the off topic board?
