The PCFC board are keeping things under wraps, but inevitably rumours surface about potential candidates for the Manager position.

    So far we have:

Chris Wilder - employed by Oxford
Richie Barker - sacked from Crawley
David James & Herman Hreidersson - would they be the dream team?
    An internal candidate - ?
    Two former Premier League managers

Who would you like to see appointed?

Jamo is a legend though, and I wouldn't want that tarnished if he wasn't a successful manager. Though it would be great for him to come back home.

    He is young
    He's afraid
    Let him rest
    Heaven blessed.
    Bring him home
    Bring him home
    Bring him home

    Chris Wilder - No
    Richie Barker - Not sure
David James & Herman Hreidersson - would they be the dream team? - No, not another appointment from the heart
    An internal candidate - Ditto
Two former Premier League managers - not if they're people like de Canio, but someone like Warnock would do.

I hear that Coppell has also left Crawley as D of F - He and Barker in the same roles could work.

Just read that Warnock's missus wants him out from under her feet while she's renovating their house in Cornwall......... so he's looking for a job until the end of the season.

Barker and Coppell might be a good shout. Maybe.

As I have posted before, I'm not sure about Neil Warnock long term because of his age, but however, if we are only looking to the end of this season, then that could possibly work, in asmuch as keeping us in the Football League. How much would he cost in wages though ? He is used to earning a fairly large salary one would have thought (ex Leeds, QPR, etc.).

I do like the idea of appointing both Richie Barker and Steve Coppell as "a team" though, but again only if it is comfortably within our financial means.

Not at all sure about Chris Wilder - why should we consider having to pay compensation to Oxford Utd. though ? There are plenty of other managers currently unemployed, and we cannot afford to be so extravagant in these matters.

Andy Awford should return to his job of successfully running our Youth Academy, we don't want to lose him from the club do we ?

As other posters have commented, this is such an important decision for the board to make at this moment in time - we cannot afford to get this wrong.

Apparently - Michael Appleton was seen in the President's Lounge with Milan Mandaric at Bloomfield Road yesterday. Might mean nothing at all, or it might mean that he was talking to MM while Jones was still in the job.

Steve Cotterill more than likely given the Brizzle job. He might do a good job for them actually.

Have read that Steve Cotterill is very good friends with the Bristol City chairman, so that sounds like a done deal

Newport County have confirmed they have turned down an approach from Portsmouth to talk to manager Justin Edinburgh.

He only signed a two and a half year contract just two months ago

It's probably that Darren Simmons from Football Executives trying to sound out other potential candidates, the club said they would be doing that. I hear there are between 40 - 50 applications in already.

Steve Coppell has resigned from Crawley - maybe he and Barker come as a double act. I could take that.

Richie barker has proposed a double act with Coppell coming on a no fee basis <ok>, apparently he went to Crawley with no wage and is happy to do the same for us.............another interesting loop is Claridge, he has put together a team that involves his old mate from Leicester Guppy and Steve Walford who was Martin O'Neils right hand man at Villa, Celtic, Leicester and Sunderland............ I was not to sure on Claridge until I heard his proposal..........aother aplication apparently received is John Gregory, who was about to sign for Barnsley!

Well bp, thank goodness John Gregory has just been appointed manager of Crawley Town - he hasn't managed in the U.K. for over 6 years. Good luck with that Crawley ! Don't really rate him to be honest.

Still think Richie Barker is already a "done deal" for us - not that I mind, as him and Steve Coppell tick a lot of boxes.

See Steve Cotterill is the new manager of Bristol City - what a well kept secret that was <laugh>

Has anyone actually seen anything other than the quotes in the Oxford newspaper which came from the OU Chairman anyway?

"There are ways of doing these things properly," said Lenagan. "We feel that the timing of the approach by Portsmouth, and the leaking of that approach on a matchday - whoever was responsible for that - was not doing things properly. It is a tribute to Chris Wilder's professionalism that he remained 100% focused on the job at hand, but I will be writing to Portsmouth's board about what happened."

    Hmm...

....the first I heard of our interest in Wilder was when Lenagan released a statement saying Oxford had been approached by Portsmouth to ask for permission to speak to him but been refused. Looking it up on google a moment ago brings up one gossip story a few days before Lenagan's comments from Skysports saying that they "understand" Wilder was one of the candidates on Pompey's shortlist as he has "admirers in the Pompey boardroom", as if this is to come as shock to someone given his success at this level - successful managers are always going to be linked to other jobs, that's football.

As for the timing, if it was between board and board then the manager did not need to know about it until after the game had been played. All Lenagan had to do ws let the manager get on with his job then take him to one side a day later and tell him then. Frankly he would have been a fool to tell the manager on the eve of a game and have it disrupt the teams preparation.

I cant see what the Oxford Chairman thinks we've done wrong in this scenario. He was the one who made our approach public, he could have dealt with it private and left it being considered gossip and speculation.
