Whoever the new manager will be is going to be appointed by the Sheffield United game on the 16th November. Peter Taylor therefore only has 2 more games to try and impress Mr Scally in getting the job. Quite frankly I'm not fussed by him getting it and would rather give someone like Stephen Constantine the job. Failing that Stuart Pearce would be nice. http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kentonline/sport/taylor-has-two-games-left-8114/
Nigel Clough?...oh!... no...hang on a minute...lol Sorry I saw the words Sheffield United...financially an uneven playing field we are dooooooooooooomed.
Two wins for PT to stay then..... anything less and we will be looking elsewhere. He cant be appointed if we lose in the Cup, it would be the reverse of Hess after the Dover loss COYG
It all depends on Saturday then. If Gills fail to win (which must be likely) then PT will not get the job whatever happens in the Cup game. The only relevance of the Cup game is that in the very unlikely event of a defeat after beating Carlisle it might stop PT getting the job. So, if Gills do not beat Carlisle and PT is counted out, who would want the job in the absence of a transfer budget? Given that, mathematically Gills can still recover easily this season it will be an old hand with bags of experience (a Ternent type). It might be better to appoint a younger person to build a team and accept relegation. We were told there were 44 applications plus PT. I guess there might be 22 applications each from Pegleg and Hoadie but there could be a surprise. Hope Powell is after a job and she is one of the few to hold a full UEFA Pro licence, the premier football manager qualification and might be a longshot. A sensible appointment depends on who advises Scally (doing it himself will be a disaster).
You need to be realistic PegLeg. It will need two steps to get the England job. Gills might be step 1, a Premiership team step 2 and then the big one. Of course you cannot disregard your competition, notably Hoadie.
Well my letter to MA masterminded our two wins against Crewe and MK Dons so thats the Gills job done... brb - I'm pretty sure I read an article somewhere where he said that he worked at his best when he was at a team that had a small budget and could get the potential out of his squad available. Unfortunately I can not find that said article for you though
I think with the Greek sides he was lucky to get paid let alone have a budget for players...so he would fit in well with Scally...lol...I'm joking Mr Chairman.
Do you really think it has never been intended for PT to be the full time manager? Dont know why we discussing it!
Just seen on another website that apparently Welling United player-manager Jamie Day is one of the candidates being interviewed for the managerial job. Young manager that with very little funds help consolidate an ever failing Welling side into a prime Conference South team before securing them the league title this season to take them up the Conference. Good little young manager but he's only been at one club in non-league, would he be able to cut it in league football or would he be another Mark Stimson?
