I would where this leaves ourselves and Bruce then. I know it's been said it's definitely not, and I don't expect it either, but you never know. I believe OLM only said it won't be him because we won't wait for him, ready to pounce on the Wigan job. It seems that Rodgers has forced the hand.
i dont think he will, until there expectations reduce, if there not within the top four come xmas, the knives will be out, id wager he wont last the season in all honesty.
My thought exactly, if anything he's got less time than the others. Hodgson would have been given the benefit of the doubt given the large amounts of compensation involved in sacking him and Kenny is a Liverpool legend and still got his marching orders. Rodgers knows it's succeed or get sacked, selling Stuart Downing would be a start!
It's a **** job. They've got the Leeds thing of thinking they're a massive club and deserve success but it's purely based on previous success. They simply aren't a top side any more. I'd say Man United, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are all well ahead of them in terms of squad. Wouldn't you be a bit pissed as the Swansea chairman if you'd just sanctioned a deal worth £7.5m of your money, only for the manager to leave a few days later? What if the new man doesn't want him?
True but they have a bit more to back it up than Leeds, they did dominate english football for 20 years. Still doesn't mean their right or make it any less annoying!
Personally think its to soon for him. I think he needed another year at Swansea and maybe a midtable time like Sunderland, Everton or Villa. But it is nice to see a young English manager getting a chance at a big club.
They could have signed Alec Ferguson or Pep Guardiola and they would still probably not make the top 3.
I think he'll be a flop. He's been credited as the mastermind behind Swanseas pass and move football, he isn't, that was Martinez. He's just tinkered with a few players. Most at Swansea I would say were signed by Martinez.
Good luck to him as I think he will need it by Xmas time, I reckon he has committed career suicide myself but that is just my gut feeling.
I like him and think he will do well he has a great football philosophy of having 11 players who can play and play in the right way. He plays from the back with his keeper playing as a sweeper it will be interesting to see how brave he is at Anfield ? I don't like Liverpool but hope he proves himself
I bet DMD comes along, closes the thread and then bans you for a week for not putting 'O/T' in the title...
It's a hell of a punt, I think he'll either storm it, or completely **** up, I expect no middle ground with this appointment.
Correct. Unless someone can bring them the league title and the champions league they're fighting an up hill battle. Liverpool aren't the club they were in the 80s, the fans need to realistically look at what they're competing against with the likes of the Manchester clubs and realise that they're lagging considerably behind. They need to stop putting unrealistic expectations on managers and try and focus on getting back into the top 4. As for Rodgers, it might be a step too far too quick or he could take to it like a duck to water.
I wonder if HDM's jovial TWS supporting reporter Nick Wood now feels even more embarrassed about his altercation with the new Liverpool boss? It was after our first game back in the Championship against Swansea when Wood decided to save time to let him get away early so he interviewed Swan for his post match thoughts during Brendan Rodgers official post match prss conference. Naturally Brendon was more than a little peeved so he stopped the packed press conference to tell Wood to shut the **** up, show some respect and let him continue with his interview. It was dynamite to see the look on Wood's face.
I think they need to consolidate for a while, give Rodgers time and appreciate that a 6th-placed finish would actually be a good finish for them right now. After that I expect the heat to really turn up for 4th place, with Spurs and Arsenal struggling (unless they invest in players) behind the Manchester Clubs and the suddenly boosted Chelsea.
