If we do sell Enrique, we will have to get a new left back of course, and there would be no reason to play Jonas on the left anymore, he could play on his natural side and link up with Simpson pretty well IMO. What do we think of getting a new left winger and using Jonas on the right next season then? Makes so much more sense having wingers on the "correct" side and get some proper crosses in. Thoughts?

yeh good thinking, could always be HBA although Pardew said he'd play more behind the striker/

I'd like to see a fluid 3 attacking midfielders in a 4-2-3-1 next season, as in they'd regularly switch positions to wreak havoc on the opponent's defences, but when defending have Gutierrez and [new winger] go back to help down each flank, with Ben Arfa ready to spring the counter.

I agree entirely, we would have to rotate players around though with HBA, Jonas, New Winger, Barton, Nolan and Tiote vying for 5 places. Then again we need depth and we'd never have all 6 fit all season.

I'm guessing your '2' will be Barton and Tiote
This not only means dropping Nolan but stopping Barton getting forward as much amd although i don't think he'd be bad in that role, IMO thats not the best way to use him

Depends on what kind of striker we buy as well, if it's a big guy you want Barton out wide floating crosses in but if it's a smaller guy you want him in the centre playing through balls for the striker to get onto.

I've never actually seen him play before, assumed he was awful and this was a running joke like the Bullard thing. Is he PL quality?

Forgot we were linked with him, that would be unbelievable having him and Ben Arfa in the same side.

Jonas' natural position is on the left wing not the right. Leave him there.

We are going to need another winger anyway but I would go for a right winger. We haven't played with an out and out rw since Routledge left and we have Guti, Ben Arfa, Ferguson and Lua Lua who can all do a job on the left. Guti can play on the right (although like AG i think he is better on the left) but he is our only one on that side.

    Like Moritz Volz.

In all seriousness I'd like to see us sign Geoffrey Mujangi Bia. Have something like:

    Harper
    Simpson Samba Coloccini M'Bengue
    Mujangi Barton Tiote Jonas
    Ba Ben Arfa

Harsh on Nolan, but beyond next season I can't see him being much use anyway.

    Edit:
In answer to Little Geordie's question, I think LuaLua can play anywhere across midfield, on the couple of times I saw him for Brighton he seemed to be playing on the left and cutting in, similar to Jonas.

He can play both, think he's two footed as well.

Sorry for not coming back to you TLG was trying to find out for sure. :) He'd always played on the left when i've seen him play for Brighton but bow to the others knowledge that he can play on the right as well.

As he is effectively the 4th choice on the left at the moment though I still think a decent RW is more pressing.

He looks class, takes people on, can cross with both feet and has a bullet of a shot. Shame he's so injury prone, he has chronic hamstring issues and tendency to break things.
