By the looks of reports our new head of recruitment is on his way from the Hammers. Apparantly one of Big Sam's right hand men. Not sure if he was with him at Bolton, but they used to get some good players. Not so sure about players at West Ham, Andy Carroll comes to mind!!. Good thing is he will know the English game so that's already one up on Salerno. If he is coming in hope he lasts more than 5 days!!!!
Martin Glover - whoever we get I still find it hard to believe Cellino is about to allow someone else to be head of recruitment. If this were the case why not get in a quality manager and allow him to bring in players he wants?
If Cellino wasn't a lunatic this system can work and it does work all over Europe. If the owner can let the professional football people get on with things unmolested then the key relationship at the club is the one between head coach and head of recruitment. Cellino should highlight what football philosophy and style he wants, set the target that defines success and let them get on with it. Problem = Cellino ain't rational enough.
Good point but Im not sure clubs give managers that much power anymore. Liverpool a prime example. No way Rodgers was fully responsible for bringing in the idiot Balotelli but is still expected to play him. Lifespan of most managers now is so short, not just at Leeds, owners dont want to be stuck with a squad expensively assembled by a manager who has maybe been a failure and moved on from club. McDs rubbish springs to mind in our case
I get what your saying Eire but you can still get stuck with players the head of recruitment has brought in. It always runs the risk of the Redfearn scenario, players come in, manager thinks wtf did you sign him for and they never get a game. Cani an example, no idea who okayed his loan move, on paper he looked awful and we never got to see that confirmed on the pitch. I agree it can work but isn't this just a new title for head scout, instead of the scout reporting to the manager I guess they report to Cellino.
Im hoping against hope that Cellino was actually being truthful in his presser when he said he wasted 9m on players last season. Maybe he doesnt trust himself to do the recruiting anymore hence an English head of recruitment. He clearly wasnt happy with Salernos efforts. Im probably clutching at straws here
I'm with you Eire, we've got to hope he's going to take a step back from recruitment and let the professionals do what they do best. I think he did let Salerno pick a lot of the signings previously, in Italy that clearly worked as they got some gems, but not here. Hopefully Glover or whoever comes in can find Rosler some good players as I think Rosler will do us proud this season, if he lasts a full season. Lets just hope Cellino gets another long ban
Cellino can't step back from anything I'm afraid. He hired Pearson who tried to chose a head of recruitment that got binned off for spurious reasons. Now that post is apparently going to the West Ham guy being interviewed by Cellino (isn't this the role he put Pearson in place for)?? In the mean time we are linked with numerous players ( being scouted by whom as we don't have a head of recruitment yet??). Sorry but the man at the top can't let professionals get on with their jobs and he treats our club like his toy. My only hope is that he gets it right and we compete next season.
You're making big assumptions, LoL. You know fcuk all about Pearson's job description. It's equally as likely that Pearson's job was to make recommendations to add to Cellino's existing shortlist. None of us truly know what's going on. Sadly, a lot of people base their understanding on what they read in the press, and we all know how much the press love us, don't we?
So I can roll it out at some future time when you post something based on something you read in the press.
Then who has scouted / recommended Lee Erwin? Possibly the soon to be newly appointed head of recruitment?
