Not quite the same but there was a dispute between Southampton and Swansea last summer. Swansea argued that Southampton were a Premier League club when they appointed Martin and should pay a higher compensation. Southampton argued they were a Championship club and should pay the lower compensation (values were in Martin’s contract)

A very different situation but highlights that contacts can be complex and it’s not always as simple as it appears from afar. Clubs will also always look after their own interests first(rightly).

I'm not a contracts expert, but I would have thought if Reims are insisting that the compensation clause remains in place, that they would have to continue paying his salary as part of the contract, in order to keep the contract active?

Just a thought....

Yeah they definitely would have to be paying his salary. But I would guess he isn't on a very big salary at all.

Still leaving Reims and joining Sunderland are not independent acts in my opinion. They haven't sacked him and then we appoint him within a week. They've agreed to let him go after we've agreed compensation with them and cleared the way for us to announce after our final game.

Interesting theory. :emoticon-0148-yes: I suppose we will find out in the coming days. I'm happy with Maric or Still. Both feel like a good fit for us.

He had used that hair spray that changes colour of your hair. He has sprayed it black and at half time he walk out and everyone thinks nowt of it until he dips his head in a bucket of water and everyone sees the ginger napper emerege and lose their ****!

Or he is probably Sat in Belgium or hasn't even left France yet!

Know the part of Belgium he is from very well, or I did a life time ago. If I had money I'd go live there no problemo.

Wouldn't blame him for taking some time out and necking a few maes before re-entering the madhouse.
