Not quite the same but there was a dispute between Southampton and Swansea last summer. Swansea argued that Southampton were a Premier League club when they appointed Martin and should pay a higher compensation. Southampton argued they were a Championship club and should pay the lower compensation (values were in Martin’s contract)It's annoying the **** out of me that I can't remember who this has happened with recently.

A very different situation but highlights that contacts can be complex and it’s not always as simple as it appears from afar. Clubs will also always look after their own interests first(rightly).
