Anybody looking to do any new grounds this season having had time to ponder over the fixture list? Personally I am looking at 6: Bristol Rovers, Charlton, Millwall, Port Vale, Shrewsbury and Walsall. Normally if I am debating between 2 away days I'll more often than not choose a stadium which is a new one to tick off the list. So in considering between Scunthorpe and Shrewsbury in August I am plumping for Shrewsbury as I went to Scunthorpe (in the rain battered game).
AFC Wimbledon I shall be going to which is new for me. Valley in terms of away day I haven't done but I've been there before. Might try and get to the Southend away game, dependant on my mate if he can so that will be at least 2 more for me. Also having an eye on going to the Kassam for the Oxford game but not certain on that game yet.
Valley is a good away day, and being on a bank hol weekend is even better. Nice little boozer not to far from the ground and hopefully if nothing has changed service is quick. Shrewsbury, doubt I'll do that, but if you do and again if nothing has changed, make sure you hide your club colours to get in the home bar at the away end outside the ground. If you do Kassam pegleg, not a bad boozer stone throw from the ground, car park end, also get pub grub. Although Oxford is on a Tuesday night so no good for me. Might do the real Dons...AFC Wimbledon but defo not doing MK Dons. As for others let's see what the year brings.
As a 'seasoned' traveler with The Gills, it would be nice to go to a few new grounds........................................ in the Championship ---- for a change !
I've been to the area where the Kassam is a couple or years ago and I only seem to remember there being a standard entertainment complex similar to Medway Valley Park in Strood (cinema, bowling, frankie & benny's etc) at the end of the car park there. If there are good pubs around there fair enough, obviously just didn't see them on that day.
PegLeg There is a pub in the shopping complex to which you refer - it's Ok -- BUT - a very short distance further (behind) the shopping area there is a pub that many Gills fans use - with a large outdoor area. You won't go thirsty.
brb I've been to Oxford a few times- I believe that you and I went into the one in the shopping complex ( memory going ) - it was OK - but not much 'footy' atmosphere. The other one is only a couple of minutes away from the ground. On one occasion,( good weather ), there were plenty of Gills fans outside on the grass.
