From today's Watty Obs: Goalkeeping coach Ruben Martinez appears to have confirmed he has joined Oscar Garciaâs coaching staff at Watford. Martinez and fitness coach Juan Torrijo have followed new Watford head coach Garcia to Brighton & Hove Albion and Maccabi Tel Aviv in the past so are expected to be on his staff. Martinez has changed his Twitter biography to âWe have returned to England Watford FCâ, although mobile devices still show his old message of âGK coach without goalkeepersâ and list his location as Barcelona. He had also previously posted a picture of his family stating âNew adventure. Letâs goâ and retweeted Watfordâs announcement of Garciaâs appointment. Garciaâs assistant manager at Brighton, Nathan Jones, remained with the Seagulls following Garciaâs departure in the summer. Garcia was announced as Watfordâs new head coach this morning and it is believed he has signed a contract until the summer of 2016.
Seems fair enough - will he work with Alec or maybe the latter will get more of a role in the management seeing as Garcia had a former Brighton player as his assistant?
Alec Chamberlain is I think one reason why our goalkeepers reach a level and go no further. Scott Loach was excellent and then his developing stopped. Was that AC or SL? Something of both I think, but there is something where Tomasz Kuszczak and Manuel Almunia did not work too well with him.
I think a new goalkeeping coach is something we have required for some time - there have been many mentions of it on here. Fair play to Alec Chamberlain but as Ak says our keepers seemed to reach a level but not progress further.
