Here's a new prediction game [we'll see if it catches on or not].

    HAMPSHIRE PREDICTIONS

It's a game that does what it says on the tin. We predict the outcome of Hampshires top six sides; Southampton, Portsmouth, Aldershot Town, Basingstoke, Havant & Waterlooville and Eastleigh.

Each week, I'll offer points for a win, draw or loss for each side. The more likely the outcome, going by recent form, the lower the number of points I'll be offering, so it's up to you to play safe or go for an upset.

There are three sides in the same division [Conference South] so in the event of a Hampshire derby, double points will be up for grabs.

Here are the opening fixtures (starting on weekend of 19-21st Jan)

    Southampton (Everton h) - WIN 3.5 DRAW 3.0 LOSE 3.5
    Portsmouth (S****horpe a) - WIN 5.5 DRAW 3.0 LOSE 1.5
    Aldershot Town (York a) - WIN 3.0 DRAW 2.5 LOSE 4.5
    Basingstoke (Maidenhead h) - WIN 3.5 DRAW 2.5 LOSE 4.0
    Eastleigh (Tonbridge a) - WIN 6.0 DRAW 1.5 LOSE 2.5
    Havant & Waterlooville (Billericay h) - WIN 3.5 DRAW 1.0 LOSE 5.5

    Example Entry:

    DRAW
    DRAW
    WIN
    LOSE
    DRAW
    DRAW

Shame to see you've missed Winchester City from this list! You can probably put them down for a lose as they have been struggling of late, being limited to picking a team of teenagers. They played quite well against Poole on Tuesday but were undone early on by the monster Poole employed in the centre of defence. I don't think Basingstoke have been playing too well lately. I'm not too familiat with the non-league set up, but I think Winchester and Basingstoke should perhaps be playing at a higher level. In the case of the former, from what I understand they are doing well to keep going despite wrapping up the Wessex League easily last season.

I was wondering how far down the pyramid to go. I was going to delve into the Southern League Premier Division so I could include Gosport Borough and AFC Totton, but I thought 3 league sides and 3 non-league sides gives more balance so I decided to stop at the Conference South <ok>

I find your lack of Farnborough.... disturbing.

(seriously, we're in the play-offs while Eastleigh are just outside the relegation zone!)

No grief intended! It's really amusing seeing how local teams are ranked and the call for Farnborough is a good one. Down here we tend to forget about clubs in the North of the county with those teams centred around Portsmouth, Winchester , Southampton and the New Forest having a greater profile. Always been intrigued why Bashley seem to receive a lot of coverage. The three towns / cities nearest to me are all doing poorly. Not only are Eastleigh struggling but I believe Romsey have been dire this season and Wincheser are struggling with the older and more experienced players all having left. I think the average age of the team WCTF put out on Tuesday was 19 - a distortion as one pkayer was 34 and all the others were teenagers. Not to disimilar to Portsmouth.

Anyway, to return to the topic of the thread, not a bad weekend for the top three teams. Saints won, Bournemouth drew and Portsmouth didn't lose!

Well done Woopert for being the first entrant! I hope we get a few more to make the game viable.

Sorry for missing Farnborough! I wanted Eastleigh and Havant & Waterlooville in there to keep it a bit local, from a Pompey/Saints perspective. I forgot there are FOUR Hampshire teams in Conference South. Maybe I'll alternate between Farnborough and Basingstoke. When there's a Hampshire Derby, I'll be able to include every-one so we'll still have 6 fixtures <ok>

    For me, I'll take

    LOSE
    DRAW
    WIN
    WIN
    LOSE
    WIN

There are only 4 of us so far, which doesn't really make the game viable. However, with all but the saints game likely to be postponed I'll keep it open for new contestants next week.

If there aren't any takers then I'll knock it on the head :(
