Sorry can't post the link but according to Dave Mac both Luongo and Smithies are close to signing new deals. With a pretty decent transfer window, Pawel signing permanently and Furlong and Manning both signing new deals things are looking good.

Yes - well said. I'm waiting for the full range of views to come out. The ones that span the full range of the spectrum from "He's only looking out for himself and his friends" through " he is only interested in promoting positive discrimination toward black coaches and does not make decisions based on merit" through to the notion that he is in fact the Anti-Christ determined to lead all us QPR fans to eternal damnation while making a fortune for himself. Did I mention that he is also totally clueless and that any good decisions made in the transfer market in the last 2 years were in fact made by others and against his advice? We are blessed to have so many ITKs in our midst who know exactly who farted first when meetings with the owners are held.

Luongo close to agreeing new QPR contract

Massimo Luongo is close to signing a new contract at QPR.

Luongo, signed from Swindon in 2015, has impressed this season and with his current deal due to expire next year, Rangers are keen to cement the 24-year-old’s future at Loftus Road.

Talks have progressed well and Luongo looks set to put pen to paper along with goalkeeper Alex Smithies, who has also indicated that he will sign a new contract.

Smithies, another player whose current deal expires in 2018, has been offered improved terms following a series of outstanding performances.

Truthfully, Luongo and Smithies signing new deals will be the best deals all winter by far. Smithies... I don't need to explain why. Luongo... I was calling for him to be substituted against Burton towards the end but the truth is he is a player with immense potential. He has a lot under the bonnet but he hasn't fully settled here. I feel he hasn't been given the correct role by any of our managers.

Don't get me wrong... he's had some great performances and some MOTM performances but I think he should have taken on a lead role when Chery departed (not taking the no. 10 role but with a change in formation). I feel his confidence has taken a bit of a knock at QPR. I'm rambling a bit but I think you get my point.

I am not trusting so much on this, I am afraid.
I believe we are tying Smithies and Wszolek in ...so we can sell them in the summer. They were happy to sign a better contract, as they will then command much better wages when they move...
I suspect this may have even been stated....the better they play...the more money the club gets.... a win win situation

Am I being so cynical on this...To me it doesn't mean they are in any way promising to stay...to me it means nothing.

There were stupid rumours about Chelsea coming after Pawel Wszolek, before the deadline, but there is a more solid and sensible rumour about Southampton after him...that one I really can believe.
I cannot see Smithes or Wszolek being with us in September.

Sorry to be down on this thread

Boooooo. Nah see your point though. Although Wszołek hasn't proved himself over a long run of games yet so whether he'll still be as desirable in September, who knows.

Pawel was on loan, so why would his parent club sell to us at a knock down price if they could make more in the summer from a PL club?

I am a bit cynical about Smithies though. However he did stay at Hudds for many years when surely others would have taken note of his talents?

Didn't think they sold at a knock down price at all...they sold at a previously agreed option price (maybe plus a premium for an early sale)

We are therefore taking the risk that he will improve/won't get injured during the rest of the season.

There is nothing bad about this imho, both parties are in a win win situation here.
I think this is just part of a good business plan. ...note the word...PLAN...a word QPR don't use much.

All I am is saying is that this is not the most wonderful thing in the world...this is just straight forward sensible business

Decent as both Luongo and Pawel have been for us I find it hard to see them getting much play time in teams at Southampton's level. Maybe Clubs near the bottom of the PL will be interested. I hope we can perform so well the rest of this season, and the Club show the ambition, that our better players will see a good chance of promotion next season.

Fair enough. Don't do it again. Whatever it is you are owning up to.
