http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/western_sydney_wanderers_head_coach_tony_popovic_emerges_as_a_shock_norwich_city_managerial_candidate_1_3598396 Tony Popovic ....... are the board serious? ile admit i dont know anything about this guy... thoughts?
He currently has a 65% win ratio at WSW, not bad but I wonder what the quality of football is like in their league in comparison to the Championship.
Think wiki's out of date - transfermarkt has it around 59% (still incredible). He took WSW as a new franchise in the A-League to win the title in his (and their) first season, second place in the second season (this). Pretty impressive, but almost as risky as appointing me on the basis of my Football Manager 2006 performance with Gillingham (which I am extremely proud of, though I say so myself).
If it is down to his organisation skills, it's questionable as to how well he could/would do in England. However, if he is a man motivator (ala PL), and the organisation was shared with A N Other, could be interesting
If you are going to sign this no mark you might as well stay put with Adams! Your board seems to be making the very same mistakes that Wolves did a few seasons back and we all know what happened to them!
Only thing I will say, if he's being bought in as a head coach alongside a DoF then it may work... But, I would say that this is a non starter considering it says there's been no approach and considering McNally seems quite adamant we will have a manager/head coach in place by Friday it seems a bit close to me.
I seriously hope not. This guy has never managed in England and our best chance of going back up is next season. We need someone who knows what they're doing from day dot. I could easily see this going the same way as Wolves.
Wouldn't they need to get him a visa as well?, if so sounds like tosh as no way you'd get that done for Friday, does depend on what they mean by "in place" though.
I think he's probably more likely to be the Director of Football. Seems to have impressed when he was a scout for Palace, bringing Mile Jedinak in for one. He seems to specialise in recruitment from what I've read.
