Congratulations to Sevilla for winning the Europa League last night and retaining the cup is commendable:also first to win it for the fourth time.. Now, Sevilla is going to go straight into the Group Stage of Champion League next season.. Do you think they should be seeded?. Please vote Yes or No
They should definitely go straight into the group stages ie not a qualifying round. There has to be some proper incentive to going through the slog of the Europa League which often has a negative impact on domestic league performance.
So much for La Liga being a weak league with no depth in quality. Anyone looking at the Q/F, S/F and finals of the UEFA Cup and Europy, the variety of spanish clubs that have been there over the last decade can see that's just plain bollox.
When Spain are constantly having 5 teams in the CL and we're only having 3, then we'll all be caring. And then some will be claiming it's all a conspiracy by Platini.
true this day is not that far off http://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/uefarankings/country/ german will over haul us next year but all rights unless for some reason suddenly english clubs all pick up. Dortumnd failing might actually help us there So far italy is 10 points below us but outscored us by 5.5 points this year. if that continues they could catch us in 2/3 years that means 3 spots... its the italians we need to watch.
Straight into the group stage, yes As top seeds? no....that should be determined by their coefficient. They are making changes to the coefficient system next season though arent they? So your final league placing counts towards it or some ****?
They like the rest of Europe take it seriously and as the best league in the world you'd expect their teams to be in it. If if wnglishclubs too it as serious as they did, Spurs us and Everton are more than capable of getting to the QF and beyond.
Spurs have taken it more seriously than anyone and have hardly fared well since Jol was in charge iirc. I think it's easy to say we'd get there but has not been proven. It tends to be an easy cop out "yeh we don't take it seriously" but I doubt the Spanish sides take it any more seriously than we do. They just have sides who can perform in their league and europe effectively. That shows their strength and our weakness imo.
Thats because unlike European Footballing Authorities, the PL refuses to help clubs by moving games around. They do it a little, but no where near the extent that other leagues do. It's madness.
I think most countries also have winter breaks as well which helps keep them fresh. But I'm pretty sure other FA's also manage the fixtures a lot better to support their clubs in European competitions - whereas in England, we tend to cater to the needs of Sky and cram as much football in as possible.
