so another summer of will he/won't he has begun and personally i think the time for cesc to leave has arrived. I think the most important thing is who takes over the armband, and unfortunately our options are pretty limited as I think it's either rvp or tv. Rvp - loves the club, always gives his all but are his injury worries behind him or is this just another false dawn. Vermaelen - still new to the league and surely gonna be rusty after such a long layoff, but probably the only player who puts his head and body in the line of fire on the pitch. Personally I'd promote rvp from vice to captain, but I dislike strikers as captains. are there any other candidates or would wenger buy in someone and give it to them? If so who would you have?
Most promising candidates are RvP, Vermaelen and Szczesny in my opinion. I would give it to RvP because he deserves it the most after the loyalty he has shown us though.
RVP for next season, TV as Assistant for when RVP is injured. In a few years either Wilshere or Ramsey, but I think Wilshere has more voice on the pitch plus he runs around like a mad-man for 90 minutes which is a good example to the rest of the team.
Chesney is too young and may not be no1 next season. he's definitely captain material in the future however. Wilshere has been championed as future England captain, Vermaelen is authorative, as is RvP. RvP's position and injuries make him a less obvious choice, so if Fab goes I'd plumb for Vermaelen. However, I'd expect it to be RvP as he's vice at the moment, with Vermaelen promoted to vice. It's good to be in a position where we can see a few leaders beginning to emerge - Wilshere and Chesney this year alone.
Yes RVP is a sure fav for now purely because of his loyalty and his actions on the pitch. TV vice and captain in near future with Wilshere possibly taking over at some point also.
vP apparently has only 2 years left on his contract, but is poised to sign a new one soon. Perhaps with that will come the Captaincy?
TV had one injury. That's hardly injury prone. I agree RvP isn't the best as he's the target man most of the time. He is however fully committed to the club and deserves some reward for it. He's also the one I can see giving the inspirational speeches before games, and someone the players will look to as an older figure and respect. Fabregas was the best man at the time, but doesn't seem such a great pick at this moment. Stripping him of the captaincy would shame him however and make him even more determined to leave. He and Robin seem good friends too - they've just been to NY together.
