So Austin has stepped down and Ross has been appointed. Austin felt the pressures were holding back his game. I think this is a good thing and wanted McCormack from the start. Very brave decision by Austin and hopefully we will see the difference in his game soon. A little embarrassing for the boss though as this means he made a very big mistake with one of his first major decisions. (Its not how hard we hit, its how hard we can get hit and keep moving forward. Thats how winning is done.)
hemase I think Austin was an inspired choice for the first couple of months, as he was different to what we saw last season. But did he step down or was he pushed because I can't see anything anywhere except Ross being given the armband?
Personally I've always thought defenders or midfielders are in a better position to captain the team, I'd rather Ross was left to concentrate on goal scoring. Hope it works out though..
Hemase, I'm getting some unnecessary grief elsewhere. Have you read somewhere that he voluntarily stepped down & why, or are you having an educated guess?
States on official web site that Austin doesn't think he has the personality for the job. âThe situation is that I had a good conversation with Rudy Austin. He is a great guy and we had a good discussion. I want Rudy to play his game. He feels his personality isnât conducive to that role".
You need to be an insider to be able to judge this. All I know is: - if Rudy asked to step down all credit to him - as I posted elsewhere, Ross was one of only maybe 3 players who showed the attitude I expect of a Leeds player when we went down to 10 men and were behind at the Shufflers
I got my information from twitter, cant boast any inside info although bogfatbobs quote does back me up. Austin did raise his game for a start but he has lost that recently, maybe he is not a pressure player. I too am a fan of captains coming from defence but for some reason at this time Ross seems a good choice to me. Dont know why.
Pearce or Byram ( if he is not been sold) and should be playing in a 442 every week should be captain. We are already a one man team making Ross captain is not a clever move.
Pearce would be most favourable candidate in defence. Byram is too young and cannot even get in the starting line up, until Saturday, so I think Ross is top pick. He clearly plays for the shirt and if I remember rightly he was captain a couple of times last year or year before and impressed me.
One of the points I was making is that Byram should be the first defender/ midfielder on the team sheet week in week out. The fact he isn't says something is going on. Let's see if he is still at LUFC in February.
We tried that and every time he played 90 mins he spent the next 3 weeks in the injury room, BMD is obviously trying to work him up to 90 mins by giving him 20 mins at the end of matches.
Hopefully he will be. I'd imagine his valuation has dropped over past six months due to his lack of match time. We'd be lucky to get 3m for him this month. Mind you, a little bridging finance taken out by Haigh to complete his joke deal could be cleared up a few days later with a Byram sale. Now there's a daft idea
No he did not. BM had a talk with Ross in April last year about the captaincy. At that time Ross didn't feel ready for the captaincy and Austin got it instead. Now Austin feels as you say that it holds him back in the game and Ross feels he is now ready.
