As it looks increasingly like Ledly is going to hang up his boots who will be the new captain ?

Scott Parker seems to be the obvious choice but could AVB use Jan Vertonghen who was the Ajax captain...... Thoughts

    Yep Parker.

You could make the argument for Friedel too if he's still #1 but I would prefer a captain to be one of the 10 out field players.

Dawson possibly, if he can get into the team again? If not Parker is the obvious choice, with Vertonghen an outside possibility

Parker with Kaboul as vice-captain, I think.

I think a couple of noses would be put out of joint if Vertonghen came in as captain, not a good start. As to who, someone who's passionate about the club and is a first name on the teamsheet. Gerrard was made captain at Liverpool when he was 23, is Bale worth a shout for vice captain.

Do people think Parker will be an automatic starter then? Cos I think he's at an age where he needs to be managed in and out of the team a bit more than he was last year, especially with him being the sort of player he is. Not to mention how Sandro needs to be introduced more into the team and he and Parker together did not lok good. But maybe AVB will sort that out.

I guess Parker, then Dawson, then, well - basically almost whoever else is playing CB - they're all captainish material. Apart from Caulker at this moment in time, obviously.

Has to be BAE, he's crazy which is good for a captain and everyone else has too much competition to be made undroppable. Well Defoe doesn't but he should by the start of the season.

Walker doesn't have much competition either thinking about it.. and Friedel... and Bale... and Lennon...

    Brad 2nd choice :)

I think VdV might be a good shout for captain if he dismisses this transfer rubbish and commits to the club, he is the player with the most experience.

  13. I don't want VDV as captain, as I don't think we should be starting with him every game. Also, AVB needs to stop VDV hogging the free-kicks, because he's crap at them.

For me, it's either got to be Parker, or one of the dead-cert defenders.

Dawson is a stand-out (if he's in the team of course, but who can guarantee that?) He's far more like a "proper" Captain and demonstrates leadership qualities. Others, and more common in this day and age, "lead by example", and I'm not suggesting Parker isn't a very good example, just not a leader in the same mould so why not use one we have?

  15. A captain has to be a number of things. He has to be the voice of the players (where the manager speaks for the club). The captain should, first and foremost, command the respect of the entire squad, he should be someone who no players doubts should be captain. He should be respected by the manager, not merely be seen as a puppet to be manipulated to get things across to players because the manager lacks the balls to do it himself. He should be honest, and lead by example, both on and off the field...

You know what? How the hell did John "burning cross" Terry ever get made captain of the Chavs?

It's amazing how many good characters we have at the club. I wouldn't be disappointed with any of the names mentioned to be honest.

I think I'm with PNP though. Scott and Kabs. Vertonghen to be brought in next season potentially.

Like some, I don't see Dawson being first choice. - although he's a great leader.

Parker is the obvious choice in that he leads by example, has experience, seems to know his ****, is vocal. However, may not be an automatic starter. For me that just leaves Kaboom.

Would also love benny to get it. I want the whole team to LOL

Great set of requirements. I reckon Scott Parker it the only one right now who ticks all of those boxes. Friedel comes a close second and did a fantastic job in yesterday's interview, but we know we are due a new number one really soon.

Beyond those two, I'm not sure who else is ready. I would say Dawson next, but he'll be fighting with Kaboul for a regular place on the pitch.
