docs a natural leader and a good decision. blooms probably deserved it due to his commitment to the club but he isent as good a leader and isent garenteed a place in the team. nikki bulls also a good leader but i dont think a keepers the best position for captain

the keeper as a captain debate is an interesting one really. Theoretically it should be an outfield player, but both Spain and Italy were captained by their goalie in the euros, so shows it can work.

I agree with both the players chosen. However it is a bit odd that there has been no mention of Winfield! He has gone from captain to not even vice captain!

I personally wouldn't even have him in my starting line up but not often a player loses the captaincy without doing something wrong.

Maybe he did nothing wrong but also did nothing right.

i wouldnt have dave in the starting line up and with doherty and stewart around i doubt waddock would either! spain and italy were captianed by keepers yes, but for me it should be an outfield player, and preforably one who is a box-to-box player so they are always around to organise the troops. obvously this cant always be the case, but its less likely the keeper will be forward in the attack!

however, if a keeper must be the captain, bully is as good as it gets!

nice to see we all agree on the captain,i feel sorry for blooms because he was one of our most outstanding players last season but i guess the doc has the experience and leadership qualities to do the job,a good decision by waddock in my opinion .as for beever we will all be sorry to see him go if and when it happens and there cant be one fan that can argue he deserves his move after his displays in a blues shirt, best of luck to him if he goes but obviously would love to see him stay.

I see everyones point about Doc, im sure he will do a good job - just feel a bit for Blooms.

re: keeper being captain theory - im not a fan of it personally. Yes, it worked for Italy and Spain but lets not forget that both of those teams have just a wee bit more quality than us in Iniesta, Torres, Balotelli, Xavi, Pirlo etc. It could be argued that all of those players lead by blindingly brilliant example. In a LG2 context I think it its important to have your captain in the middle of the play, lifting the players around him and I question how easy it is for a keeper to do that.

I also agree with the point about the Doc. He has more than enough experience and quality at this level and weighs in with the odd goal too. Ahead of our flurry of signings last week, I would have been happy with a mid table finish but looking at our squad (hopefully one or two more to come), I think aiming for the play-offs is not out of the question. CMON THE BLOOS!!

play offs would be very nice devon, a trip to wembely with a big crowd (just down the road, may bring out some of the glory supporters from the woodwork) to watch the blues would be fantastic. however i couldnt stand losing in the play offs again!
