After Barton's actions yesterday he can not be captain of the club. My captain would be Faurlin and we should be building the team around the central pairing of Faurlin and Diakite.
Who would you pick and why?

Not sure if Faurlin is vocal enough to do it. It could be a new player but if we had to name a current one, if would be Ferdinand for me.

But i think it will be one of the 4 or 5 new players that will start.

Thats even if Barton stays. I dont think he should.

But if he does, he certainly shouldnt be captain. What an awful decision that was.

I was very impressed with how Kompany came across as captain for Citeh yesterday. This is he sort of character we need in the club. I don't think we have one at the moment.
Definitely not Diakite or Faurlin. Nowhere near able or ready at present.
A dilemma!!! Nearest for me is Derry - but he's not guaranteed a place in the team at present.

If he signs I think Taiwo would be worth thinking about as captain.
Seems like a strong likeable character with some good experience.

Think Ferdinand is probable and a good call but may rest on what happens with John terry. If terry is found innocent for some reason think the dynamic and question changes to some extent.

    Clint Hill for me

He's shown real passion and desire on the pitch this season

However, I do accept that he may be a little old now

Why, he never made the accusation, it was from a fan. Not guilty doesnt mean he didnt do it, just that there wasnt enough evidence or he was rich enough to buy his way out of the charges. Such is the british justice system.

Dont agree with you here Swords. A good captain who is a guaranteed starter can lead by example both on and off the pitch. Long term i would be thinking Onouha or maybe Ferdy. A captain should represent everything thats good about our club. It is for this specific reason that Barton can no longer be our captain. We also need more leaders in the Derry role who are capable of playing to a consistent high standard and dragging performances out of others.

Flyer not making a judgement on the rights and wrongs of it.
Just feel like the dynamic changes for Ferdinand if Terry was found innocent.
Will be a lot of negative coverage for him and it just won't be easy for him.
If I was picking a captain I'd rather have someone without an issue like this to worry about.
If Terry is found guilty then Ferdinand comes out of the whole case looking good and makes it easier for him to take the captaincy.

Ferdinand: consistent, well organized, disciplined and calm. Not the perfect player to be sure but has all the qualities of a great captain.

I don't think that Ferdinand will be a definite starter next season. Cisse for me.

Derry for me...........has the right qualities and temperament. Showed some of this in his handling of Taraabt over the penalty he wanted to take and the way he conducted himself following the red at Old Trafford. A true professional and dependable player.

If Hill and Derry were likely to be in the starting 11, either would be my choice. As they're unlikely to be regulars, and assuming we don't sign a Captain type in the summer, why not Mackie? He's got all the attributes needed, and is a fan favourite. Would truly lead by example. Faurlin is a brilliant player, though i'm not sure he's the player to rally the team. I don't think Ferdinand should be given the pressure of being captain yet, he's had eneough with the Terry situation this season, with it having a negative effect on his performances.
