Leeds United has today revealed changes to its Board of Directors as the club looks ahead to a bright future. The first new face on the board is Australian Peter Lowy. Peter is currently the Principle of the Lowy Family Group private investment business and was formerly the CEO of the hugely successful Westfield Group. Lowy is a lifelong Leeds United supporter who brings over 30 years of business experience with him. Peter is joined by Aser Ventures Chief Executive Officer Massimo Marinelli who has played a pivotal role in generating investment into the club during Andrea’s ownership, including the increased involvement of the 49 Enterprises earlier this year. Finally, former Fiorentina CEO Sandro Mencucci will take a place on the new-look board having spent 17 years at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. Massimo, Sandro and Peter join Leeds United Chairman Andrea Radrizzani, Vice Chairman Paraag Marathe and CEO Angus Kinnear, to complete the Board of Directors. Andre Tegner departs, having joined as a Director alongside Andrea in January 2017. He has been a well-respected advisor to Andrea and he leaves with the thanks and well wishes of everyone at Leeds United. *Subject to Premier League clearance
Great move and think the Lowy guy is from Westfield who actually build sports stadiums as well as retail shopping malls all over Australia, England, USA. Guess its a great move as these guys were originally involved in Wembley until Ken Bates screwed it up. Looks like everything to do with Leeds is Grade A
Read that Lowry's dad tried to buy us from Bates in 2010 but pulled out because he couldn't deal with him. Not sure if it's true or not
Think he was also big mates with Colin Montgomery who is also a Leeds fan our old mate at Clipper was also involved in that deal too, but dealing with the gangster.....
When Kinnear joined my first thoughts were buy the ground back, sell the ground and build a new stadium. With Lowry joining the board I’d still not rule out the possibility of a new ground even though Kinnear is saying no... Surely the plan isn’t to redevelop parts of ER as a year of no fans would have been the ideal opportunity and we’ve missed that window?
Think the plan is to establish Leeds as a prem team, which means survive this season improve and finish mid table or better again next season. Then start the work on ground improvement. Having an empty stadium is ok except for getting no gate receipts and gate receipts have accounted for a £46m loss this season alone. So its a double edged sword and the plan means still having full ground whilst working on the ground.
I thought Kinnear specifically said they plan to build above current stands while still using them then relocate fans to the new bit while redeveloping below, therefore no empty stands? Not sure how the HSE would view that but I am sure that is what the quote was.
