Gary Neville has been sacked as Valencia boss, with assistant Pako Ayestaran taking over at the Mestalla until the end of the season.
Poison chalice. The club was in such a mess before he went there. Shouldn't have done his mate a favour.

It was clear the players weren't playing the way he wanted them to and some didn't seem interested to play at all.
Said from the start, he should have started in a more traditional way. English club, possibly championship or league 1, got some real experience as a manager, worked his way up and then perhaps taken a job as big as Valencia.
I doubt he's reputation as a potential manager has suffered much due to this. What was he supposed to do with all those multi-zillion£ footballers? He'll probably go to Villa.
He's a smart football man. This will be a good learning experience, despite the "rush to the top". He'll be back & do well.
I think he'll disappear a bit until after the Euros before returning to Sky. Unless he wants to get the press over and done with and turns up on MNF to take the questions and get it out the way. Sky miss him.
I have heard a few times from journ's based in Spain that he took on a real problem at Valencia as a lot the players shared the same agent and some of them were just not up to/for it as they are on silly money on long contracts. sounds as if a bit of a Ridsdale character in charge
I think, considering he has been around top level, international club football long enough, not to mention the contacts and friends he has with even more experience, that his decision was a strange one. He took a gamble on his ability and, whichever way you look at it, he lost. He certainly wouldn't be the first top player to dip his toe in management, leave it in failure and not go back.
Valencia were a **** show, and as AKCJ said, you can't really blame him for going there too and trying something. His reputation will likely not be damaged within the football community, just among the fanbases who like to take the piss out of anyone at any oppurtunity. I prefer him dedictating his time to the England setup, to be honest. Have a feeling the FA are trying to make him the person to step up after Woy.
Good. Hardly a shock either. He needs to get back to sky and MNF double quick. Gary Neville was badly let down by a poor Valencia squad. God help the next manager/coach that turns up.
Yeah that's basically the case. Some of them didn't seem bothered in playing or adapting to his style.
