Travelling to work in manchester all I have heard is how well City played yadda yadda yadda....what I have also heard is there fans and how happy they are. At least they were not taking this competition lightly, they desperately wanted to win and as a lot have said, because they went years and years until recently without winning f all. The Peter Reid era is remembered with great fondness, the attacking play with wingers and of course SKP and SNQ. But this morning in the aftermath of defeat in a cup final I dont think I have been in such a happy positive mood about SAFC, the fans, players but especially Gus who I hope can stay with us for many years to come.
I haven't read all the threads but I'm sure the facts been pointed out 2.4million times that it was individual brilliance that did for us, the lads were immense, and Poyet got it spot on, City didn't look like breaking through. Just seen Gus interview and the genuine and obvious emotion makes me even more certain he is our man, he looked absolutely devastated, no hint of 'it was City' or excuses, or 'oh well. Several flashbacks like Borini going clear, that pains me, I know it's easy said but at the rate Kompany was going if he'd turned back on him he'd have done him, but no time to dwell. We have about 50mins of knowing what it might feel like to win a trophy, and it was amazing, I couldn't believe the scenes when the goal went in, looking around I thought' this Wembley has never seen people going this mental'. I still can't comprehend that Toure scored that goal, at that time, just as City were starting to look a little flagging, just as their fans seemed to be turning, but it goes in, games changed, the second was a hammer. The fact we put on such a great showing, team and fans, to a worldwide audience might still prove invaluable in attracting new players, and with Cardiff & Fulham gone, I have little doubt we will stay in the league, I'm not 100% sure if I wanna get there again, but the pain of losing a second cup final would be tempered by the Euro football it would bring, and we didn't enough yesterday to suggest we are capable of winning one soon enough with Gus at the helm. Gutted, a little bit poor, few bruises, but as you say, proud.
I hate what i'm gonna say, but here goes. We got beat, but beaten by Man City, top quality team, top fans, top club, there is no shame. Well done City, gutted, but i think deep down most expected it.
yeah I know ...spirited, resilient, gutsy, a team with character. - and the rest. You can say what you like, we still lost and we came within 40 minutes of glory, I am proud it was such a good game to watch and we played well, also, that we had a real go. Doesn't get over the hollow feeling of defeat in a final, sorry, not a happy larry today.
We really couldnt have asked the lads to put in a better shift than they did, we know their limitations, just got to remember how well we did to get to the final and then to be the better team upto the point in which they scored. I was devastated yesterday, I didnt think I would feel so low because as said by Gonads, I think we all knew we would get beat, but then to get beat the way we did with being the better team for most of the match, Hurts. It hurts like hell at the moment, yes I feel proud to be part of a cup final with my team, but it hurts.....
The team by no means let us down, and for that reason I'm still very proud of their achievements of getting to the final...Now for the FA Cup eh..
I live very close to Wembley and my local was heaving with Sunderland fans yesterday. We've had fans from other clubs who haven't exactly covered themselves in glory but to a man, woman and child your lot were an absolute credit both to your club and to the sport and a good time was had by all. Good luck for the rest of the season and hopefully we'll be seeing you again in April.
