Gary Monk How far we have come we deserved to be linked with these sort of people. It's obviously a privilege for us to have a high calibre manager but it's also a privilege for him to come and manage this group of players." Got to say young Gary has it spot on for me. Cheers Mabon
I agree Mabon, our boys are a great bunch of lads, feet on the ground, and work their socks of for our club! Well said Garry..................
Just as well Sigurdsson isn't part of the club then hey? He only wants to work his socks off for Rodgers not the Swans. Well said Mr Monk
His choice, musty, even if we disagree with him. He's not going to QPR though is he? It is Liverpool after all. I agree with Monk. We have a great core of players and a wonderful team spirit. I'd hope Laudrup realises that just as we're lucky to get him he's lucky to have a great opportunity with us. Well said.
When you think about it, the same applied to Rodgers didn't it? He inherited a squad of players who were able to respond to his coaching philosophy. He could have gone to another club that did not possess the calibre of players that we do and bombed out - a la Reading. If Laudrup can get his message across to the boys and keep us up, the millions we will earn will enable us to become more competitive in all areas - higher fees for even better quality players, the training infrastructure, Academy and ground expansion etc. All we need is for the chemistry to be right and the Swans can fly to heights that we never envisaged.
I agree with everything said here. Lets just hope the Irishman doesnt come back hunting our players. (I know there is an agreement) But still not convinced that will stop them. As for siggy he has gone and no doubt for a lot more ££££££££££. Just keep what we have, keep the spirit and bring the right additions in.
Very excited about the possible " new additions " Laudrup might bring , we just need a couple of players in the right spots & 15 million will be more than adaquit , adaquite .... enough !
Good post. I agree with all above comments and have to say that Gary Monk is correct in what he says, i dont think he will feature much this season but having him in the squad is going to be essential to our prospects of staying up. The likes of him Britton and tate are the glue that binds the squad together, not so much in a playing sense but they carry the ethos of the swans and lead by example . A shame time is running out for Gary Monk, i would like to see him feature for the club in another capacity someday, he has proven himself to be a fine captain and leader and represents the club with total professionalism. Hopefully Laudrup will see these qualities as well and keep him onside .
I think that Garry has a valuable role to play; not as a player (emergencies only) but as a link between the players and manager. He is obviously respected by his team mates, as is Tatey, so the two of them can really help Laudrup during his integration process and beyond. Laudrup will need instant and accurate feedback on the squad, how we play and the strengths and weaknesses of the players. From there he will obviously make his own mind up and proceed accordingly. In fairness to Rodgers, what he did worked for us and I hope that ML will add to that rather than change too much. I would be happy if he changed one thing though. I have never been convinced about the physical strength and fitness of our squad. If he can add just 10/15% to the upper body strength of players such as Leon and Joe, I'm sure it will make a significant difference to their game - the same for general fitness levels throughout the squad. Anyway, obviously he is a far better judge than I am of such matters, so let's see what he makes of it.
Garry Monk is right in what he says, we do have a great group of players who will give their all for the team and Mr Laudrup will benefit from their talents and commitment as well as the other way round. It is going to be tougher than last year with the teams that have come up better than those relegated so will need manager, players and fans all working together for the common good of our club.
I have a good feeling about the coming season but none of us can say with any degree of certainty that we will do well. First of all we are entering unknown territory with a new manager who has never played or managed in the premiership before or worked in british football and we dont know if he can get it right first time. not all super stars make good managers and dont forget he has been sacked and he has walked out of a club before. with the new fixture list announced then we have been given the short straw and Laudrup is going to have a massive shock on how quick the football is in the premiership. I hope he wont underestimate how competitive and close all the teams are outside the top 4 as anyone can beat each other. Goals will be a big factor and not the amount of possession we have this season so i hope he can improve on brendan's tally. we are not an unknown factor this season so its going to be much harder, I'm sure he will get it right but i am not complacent enough to say that he will, ...Normally we say that we should give a new manager time but looking at the fixture list then thats not possible especially if we need points at the end of the season with the run in we have got,,I thought last season was hard but i cant believe what we have been dealt with this season....we need to have a really good first half of the season so i hope laudrup will be ready......
Yes, it will be hard and all the pundits, journos and "experts" keep bleating about this second season syndrome. Well, that cuts both ways. Other teams might have sussed a way to play against us but we've been learning too!!! Our players now have a season's experience under their belts. It took us a while to get up a head of steam last year, so we had a bit of a slow start whilst we learned to deal with playing at a higher level. Guess what? We did learn. We learned how to live with the best that the Premier League had to offer and we learned how to take quite a few points off some of them as well. And we did it with STYLE. Take Liverpool. They had the ENTIRE season to study us, including a game at Anfield. Fat lot of good it did them when they came to the Liberty. We should start the season with confidence. We should bank our experience and remember that we deserve to be where we are, We should also take heart that our coach is way ahead of any other coach in the Premier League in terms of playing ability; and that if he can transfer just a modicum of his experience to our squad then we will be in with a great chance of staying up at the very least. The lads need to buy into Michael Laudrup and vice versa. If that happens and we hit the ground running, who knows what we can achieve next season. Believe!!!
Lets hope so thats all we can do. one point though great players dont always make great managers,,,E.G john charles, Bobby charlton, Bobby moore.....and the great maradona who is up there with laudrup...so im just hoping he can deliver and im sure he will but its not something that any of us know for certain.....
But Dai, better than having a cheapskate manager don't you think? Btw I think you've got a bit of egg on your face - just there, between the two ears.
as soon as i saw your name on the main forum tampon i Knew you would post rubbish and ruin the thread..typical of someone that is not educated enough to join in with an intelligent post .. nothing new there then pfffft
I bow to your superior intelligence Dai. You have spent your entire 606/not606 career rubbishing huw Jenkins, its only fair to point out when you get it wrong again. Like I said last week when you were churning out your infantile diatribe against huw Jenkins, you would have ti make the mother of all apologies when your nonsense was proven to be nonsense. But you never do admit you're wrong because you obviously don't realise your comments are a complete joke.
